Well guys is it recommended?? What are the advantages/ disadvantages?

How much bandwidth will it take for a blog and a forum with a good theme..?

Also, How much bandwidth does a site with traffic as much as TE require..? just trying to get an estimate..:P

It good for personal site small blog and forum.
If ur aim for something big like TE or AnandTech.
Then it not good idea to be on Shared hosting..
i thing site TE's bandwidth more 500mb per day with all those ads flashing
By way which web hosting service.... u r going to use..?

Shared webhosting is best for static website like a blog.

Even you can host forums which have a small user base. for starting a website, shared hosting is good, as when a traffic grows you can migrate to VPS.

Dedicated Web Hosting is works well for sites with large number of daily hits.

like Techenclave.com get more than 80,000 appox Hits per day(wild estimate :P) .

So if your site have less traffic, then go for shared hosting

else with large number of traffic go for VPS hosting.

if youre just starting a new blog, try the free options like wordpress and blogger. Blogger supports a lot of widgets and themes just like wordpress so both are almost the same. when you see that you're getting more than a thousand hits a day then you can get your own domain and webspace.

I won't Recommend Starting off with wordpress.com because your blog address would name.wordpress.com, after some time you would feel to get your domain. then you would loose lot of traffic and would have to start from zero.

So best thing is Self Hosted Wordpress blog.

But if you are not ready to pay Domain Registration or Hosting now, then you should start with Blogspot blog, because blogger would redirect your xxx.blogspot.com visitors to your new custom domain.

It may feel unimportant now but after few years, it would a deal breaker.

If it's something very much static stuff i.e. for information and not for the masses, i would suggest to go in for a basic hosting plan only.

less than 2 GB anyday, unless you have a very busy blogs and provide downloads too. You can always upgrade.

TE gets too many hits and bw usage will be around 1TB or more i think.

Errr you started the thread, everybody else posted the ideas, feedbacks, then I created my blog.

If in first place you had not started the host, the blog wouldn't have been there.

So its your fault
