I had just one question. Is it worth upgrading from Phenom 2 X4 955Be to Ivy bridge( either i5 or i7 3770k). I have allready ordered EVGA GTX 680 which I wil be getting today. current PC setup is in my sig. XFX 5850 will be replaced by GTX 680 today.

I use it mostly for movies and gaming.

Any suggestions.

I think in your case it will be wiser to wait for Intel Haswell chips to release in Q1 2013.

But upgrading to Ivy-Bridge is also a good proposal, just wait till August -- September for prices to settle and the initial issues like --
  • overheating,
  • lack of over-clocking potential,
  • confusion pertaining to overall performance gain and power draw improvements over Sandy-Bridge.

Hope this answers your query, Cheers!!

A single word reply YES!

As #[member='ALPHA17'] suggested its better to wait for 3more months to get some good stuff and if you can still wait.. You get haswell intel's much Talked procy. I'm excited:)

Thanks guys. I will wait a few months tosee if the fix the overheating issues with Ivy bridge. Hopefully its fixed with a new stepping.

No point buying SB when Ivy is nearly the same price and will be readily available in 1-2 weeks max.

Thanks guys.

I am going to wait a few months and just hope that the temperature issues are resolved with new revisions. there is still time for haswell to release. So, I am gonna buy Ivy bridge in a 1-2 months.

Another question-

IS corsair H50 compatible with Ivy bridge?

HI guys,

Sorry for the offtopic but other than reducing bootload times , why is a SSD really needed ? .

Yes it is. And honestly if you can wait for the next revision of Ivy-Bridge then it will be better you go the whole hog and wait till Q1 2013 when Intel will release Haswell.

Along with that, you get faster read and write speeds(by faster I mean ~2x or more) than you average 7200 rpm hdd. Plus, 'sometimes' in games too you must have noticed the graphics load after you reach there especially, when there a large draw distances. SSD can eliminate these.
