Graphic Cards is my 6800 GT fried???

Disciple
hello,

i think my graphic card is fried :(

was working on sorting out my PC (a monthly scan and clean up) and used registry booster 2 to defrag the reg and clean up any issues as have done a lot of deleting and moving of files lately.

anyway, long story short, i needed to reboot and when the PC came back on-line i was in 600x800 res and my nvidia 6800 GT no longer was working. fair enough. i restored ALL registry changes and even did a system restore and still no good.

was able to get the res back to something useful and have since tried to install the nvidia drivers 91.47 but have had NO luck in getting the nvidia 6800 GT working. most recently i installed forceware 163.75 but i think that one is a bit too much for my uses, should i try another one???

when the PC boots up nothing from nvidia loads like it used to, apart from the
nforce tray options but thats only for audio. and can i update that one by the way?

i have dual monitors and am currently running on the integrated graphics from the moboard.

have included some screen shots of my system info and hardware info.
have re-started numerous times using system restore, re-installing drivers, uninstalling drivers from add/remove in control panel and still no luck.

i'm starting to fear the worst that the vid card is fried (after googling for a few hours).

you guys are always my last hope and you always come through with great news, i hope its true this time too :)

all help is appreciated and thanks for reading!

The exclamation mark is a yellow one, dont worry its most probably a software problem, might be possible that some needed registry entry has been deleted. When you double click on Nvidia 6800GT in device manager, the screen that comes up would have some message do post that screenshot as well.

Yes, your drivers seem to have completely messed up. Just use driver cleaner to clean out your drivers files and reinstall again.

that yellow exclamation mark seems like a driver problm, but do u see it even when u unplug gpu and use onboard?

Hey mate, when you have to add something to your previous post, just use the edit button to add to the same post ;) , I have noticed you always keep making multiple posts with little time difference between the posts.

ok, have used driver cleaner pro (as per instructions) and am now rebooted with this.....see pic.
Xp is not seeing a nvidia card but only a VGA device (with no driver)

to be triple sure i don't mess this up, what is the next step?
should i install the latest nvidia drivers for the nvidia geforce 6800 GT which would be 163.75 according to their homepage??
god i feel dumb but don't want to screw this up, thanks

ok matey;) but i tend to forget that!

yup, card is all plugged in and have booted.

am just about to install the latest nvidia driver, do u think that is the right move??

see the pic i put up in post #6

what! how can u say then ur card is fried? next time when u hear ur card squeal like a ........when u mess w/ the power/overclock, u will say my card is singing!

possible solution - unins the older drvs, go to safe mode, use g3d drvsweeper to clean drivers, install in safe mode, reboost

try older drivers first!

yes, did the entire uninstall process (including driver cleaner pro in safe mode) and the latest driver did not work.

will now repeat the uninstall process again and try the last known working driver for me which was 91.47.

Many times you do need to reinstall drivers when you reinsert the same card or a different one of the same make- even though they are there already. :)

When you reinstall- it will say it's already there and do you want to overwrite- click 'yes'.

So all ok now?? :p

so, did all that driver cleaner pro stuff in safe mode again and then tried -nasty file remover- for the nvidia stuff and it came up with a lot of files. mostly language ones which i can't delete but have managed to get rid of the rest.

if this does not work then i think its time for a windows re-install (the first in 3 years for me).
