Graphic Cards is my 6800 GT fried???

could it be that the original vga controller is the problem?? i mean, u need that installed first and then you can do the video card, or no?

anyway it says my vga controller is not working properly and i tried to reinstall it automatically but it was a no go.

where would i get one of those?

vga ctlrlr is ur graphics card. u can buy a new cga controller the 8800 gt if u want.

no reinstall in 3 yrs?...good have a nice time then.

Edit: lame post

ok, no luck yet :( but have discovered something that may help...

my video monitor drivers are not installed as i checked with the samsung discs as i had a hunch about this. anyone heard of this affecting the nvidia driver setup before?

also just noticed that there are no 'monitors' in my device manager.

and no 'display adapters' either which is where the nvidia card would be.

anyone ever had this happen??

am trying to re-install my samsung monitor drivers now...

Dude just calm down, maybe some of Windows System Files have got corrupted or deleted. What u can do is go to command prompt and type the following "SFC /SCANNOW" without quotes it will start the Windows System File Checker which will scan u r computer and replace and corrupted or damaged files. But remember u will need the XP installation disc with you or else it wont continue....

Or If u have any Live OS Disc of Linux or Windows u can boot the system with it and check if u r card is ok or not. I personally prefer Knoppix 5.0 Live DVD which has nearly 80-90% of Latest VGA Chip Drivers.

One More Option is to check the card in another system.

As A last resort u can format u r windows drive after backing up u r data and other stuff and reinstall XP.
Hope it helps................

yeah man, i'm much calmer now that it is just a software / driver screw up, no worries :)

i ran the SFC /SCANNOW as you suggested and it went through with no mega problems.

a reboot later and still no luck :(

anymore suggestions??

a re-install is a total last resort as it will take a day just to get all my stuff back into XP :(

well, i am at a total loss for ideas now.

device manager had the nvidia chipset bit - check

on reboot vga device was recognized - check

installed last known working nvidia driver - check

on reboot the 6800 GT was in the device manager under display but it had a little yellow question mark beside

was unable to install the monitor drivers

the last thing i can think of if there is a base nvidia driver i need to install before going to 91.47. meaning do i need driver A before using driver B?

other than that it seems like i'm in search of a good windows boot cd, know of any reliable torrents??

and thanks everyone for your help, much appreciated but 2 full days on this problem is too much :(

just do this dude...uninstall all the drivers, shut down the pc, open up the cabby, remove the card, reset the card again also clean the slot dust, restart the pc, it will automatically detect the new hardware, install the new drivers, restart the pc and all done...enjoy...see its so simple..

finally got the PC on reboot to recognize the card (after i turned it off and unplugged it) but when it went to install the drivers the error message of 'cannot install this hardware as the drivers are either corrupt or missing' came up.

and this is AFTER i did all the right steps to get rid of ANY nvidia drivers for this card.

i hope a full re-install will sort this out....

hey dude which company is ur 6800gt. if its from BFG TECH and under warrenty , the nget it replaced , i got replace my old card with in 10days , with a brand new card , which was manufactured 4 months back.
GOOD LUCK ...

Just go to KNOPPIX Linux Live CD and download the latest live CD of knoppix and give it a shot............... I dont think it is a hardware problem,
and also u can check it in any other system, this will clarify all u r questions...........

your registry is screwed dude

download system mechanic and repair your curr registry. the problem is mostly because while you were cleaning out your registry it wouldv'e installed the remote desktop driver for the secondary adapter.

just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who helped out and in the end i did a re-install of XP which solved everything and as a bonus i'm running much much much faster too!!

this forum rocks, thanks again!!
