according to ***chip** magazine

had an articles about powersupply, they had a chart accoring to it, i should have

the 12 v rail giving around 17 amps where as the smps says
12v rail 10 amps

so, whats goin on here....

well, if ur system is running fine without giving u any trouble (random restarts/ BSODs/) then the PSU u have now is holding up fine. Probably, it wont be of much help if u plan to overclock on it.

BTW, what is ur PSU rated? i guess its generic and what is ur rig like?

@sunny: Post your rig specs so that members can help you out. Or goto http://takaman.jp/D/?english and calculate the power supply needed by your rig. Also its mostly advisable to go with atleast 400W PSU from a reputed brand like VIP/Powersafe when you get a card like the 6600GT/9800pro and above.

can i go for a local 500watts suppy, which can have like

15 amp in 3.3
25 or so in 5
17 or so in 12 ?????

will that work, i know its not exactly future proof, but i am kind of a budget people,

will that do ???
my system
p4 2.8 ht
d865gbf
512+256 ddr
200 + 40 (maxtor 6y**,samsung)
tvtuner pinnacle
sony dru 720a
6600gt
2 cabinate fans (.2 and .1 amps)

i have almost the same setup but a 9800 pro instead of that 6600 gt of urs, and anything below a powersafe 400W PSU is not recommended. it shud cost about 1500 bux. budget, well look at it this way, u dont wanna screw ur 30K hardware because u saved 1000 bux by going in for a cheaper alternative...

my radeon 9800pro on 300watts mercury has started showing artifacts for some days, earlier it was running games with orignal driver.

min required is 300watts,ati says

I am running a 9800pro on Mercury 300w too card runs fine, no probs, now start ur own thread, coz prolly ur card is screwed, fan may not be workin!!

hey sunny the specs on the 500w psu you posted look good but generic/local psus *sometimes* overstate the facts (or in extreme cases even mislead you) .so as someone already suggested its better to go for a branded one like powersafe . even a slightly lower capacity one light 400w will suit you well.

hmm...the zebronics PSU brand has the same specs as its powersafe counterpart, even the model number!!!!!!!!!

ex : zebronics has a model no. LC-B500E ,,my powersafe 500W has the same LC-B500E, even the ratings for 3.3/5/12 are the same!!!!!

zebronics 500w seems pretty decent.. a friend of mine got one for 1.2k or so after his 400w one which was 400rs conked off twice. the 500w one has been working well for close to a year now

^^ yep i was using one for a year and half .. but then it conked when a sata power cable screwed up most of the stuff i had.. :)

Zebronics is good value for money, but i wud still prefer a Powersafe 400W over this..
