My budget is around 50k. I am looking for a TV.
I went to a samsung showroom and saw a 43inch plasma with 3D.
Is it worth it? I am a noob regarding TVs as this would be my first led/plasma tv
Any other recommendations? Under this budget? Any LED Smart Tv?
Min screen size 40inches.

Regards

3D seems to be dead (for now) buy a nice LED , its easier on the power consumption too

3D is not useful. Plasma is exceptional VFM. Equivalent LCD/LED will cost at least 50% more. But do look at your windows/doors/lighting before going ahead.

Suggest me a good led then?
Screen size min 40 and smart if possible.
Room it will be kept in is 12x12 feet

I have a Samsung 43F4900 plasma. VFM totally...

I also have a ~2 years old Sony BX 350 and an ancient Videocon LCD. I'm not a TV enthusiast nor an expert. But the plasma is about a million times better than the LCDs. Especially if you pull the curtains and turn off the lights. I hate those glowing blacks on LCDs. Plasma blacks are black, period; and that's where they outdo picture quality of LED/LCDs. Unless of course you're talking of LEDs upwards of Rs 80k. That's when LEDs start challenging Rs 40k plasmas.

Head over to the forum at HiFiVision dot com. Most of what I've written above is gyan from there. Gurus there suggest Panasonic plasmas if you've Rs 60k+.

The base model plasma like F4900 have a low resolution lower then the HD standard. They also don't perform well in bright rooms due to low brightness and poor anti glare measures. While the black levels may be good ,the difference can only be perceived in a room with low ambient light. The black levels of mid range LED models like samsung series 5 and Sony W6xx series can match the black levels of base model plasma during night time and easily have superior contrast in daytime compared to vast majority of the plasmas.

Plasma is definitely not dead. My brother has a 42" Panasonic plasma and the black levels and picture quality on it are unmatched. For some reason, LCD/LED TVs are being marketed much more vigorously by companies than Plasma TVs and hence we are led to believe that LCD/LED must be better. But that is not so.

That said, not all Plasma TVs are good either. It would be a good idea to do some research, go to showrooms, look up Amazon reviews, etc. before making your decision.

The problem with Plasmas is that they consume about 250watts of power, v/s about 60 for an LED.
They also get really hot, and will heat up your room.

I don't think 3D's dead. It's just taking a breather, but given a choice, I'd rather get a larger TV, than one with more features.

Personally I'd buy the largest dumb LED TV (with good picture quality) I could afford, and get an Android stick or an HTPC to make it a smart TV.

The distance that we normally watch, there is no discernible difference even if the plasma is not FullHD. But for the Sammy 4100 which is junk, any other budget plasma is better than LED that is ~10k higher. Ex. Sammy 4900 and Series 5. Plasmas are also much more "easy" on the eys. For SD content, the HD is better than the FullHD.

OP: go to a showroom, take the content with you on a USB drive and check out yourself. Ask the salesperson to put the color-mode to 'standard', most of them would be in 'vivid'. In the very bright store-lighting, Plasmas would look washed-out compared to LEDs, but they sparkle in the home lighting.

Read evreything, trust your eyes only!

Any comments on the above mentioned model? Guys I just have till tomorrow then I have to go back to college and it will be a no till November. :/

Purchased the model Lg 42la6130 from OLX for 50K with 11+ warranty. This model is really good. Its a 3D, but not a smart tv. For the money I paid, " paisa wasool".

Own a Panasonic plasma and blacks are excellent. Power consumption is definitely a big negative. Lot of heat generated.

Worldwide plasma sales are negligible and that is why Panasonic has decided to stop manufacturing due to increased competition from LED.

If you decide to buy a plasma make sure replacement plasmas are left in the world during guarantee or warranty period :)

LG, Panasonic, Samsung & Micro-max have a good variety of Plasma 3D TV’s .If your Budget is 50K so you would get any 3D TV starting from price range of 34 so check out the above Brands and then you may sort out best from any one from these ,and you may also opt for a LED that would be better as the power consumption is less and HD clarity is much better than Plasma 3D one’s .
