Is Ready boost an option for extra RAM?

Hello,
I want to know if using a flash drive as ready boost, increase the RAM capacity of the machine?
if not, wht is ready boost?

OP,

It was more like a marketing gimmick. I had tried this in my old system for improving the performance of vista but didn't find any noticable change.
 
actually, i tried it on a dual core system with 256mb ram and windows 7. a 2gb sandisk cruzer micro made an appreciable improvement in performance. Ofcourse don't expect it to show and improvement on 1GB systems and all.
Was a 5-6 year old compaq laptop. I think it was onboard as well. the system was more responsive when the pen drive was attached.
