On my friend's laptop, whenever he is starting Windows 7, everytime an error message is displayed which says that

"Errors detected on Hard Disk. It may fail. Please take a backup of programs and documents.

Errors reported from partitions C,D,E,F"

But the performance has not degraded too much.

The laptop uses a WD1600BEVT hard disk. I checked the WD site and downloaded their diagnostic tool Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows

But whenever I run it, even though the partitions are displayed, the main harddisk is not displayed under the Physical disks.

So I am unable to perform the checks.

CAn you suggest any other software which can check and tell if there if the hard disk is going to fail physically soon.

The warranty will be over in 3 months and so he will have to give it for replacement soon.

P.S: I have ssen the model number of the drive from the Device Manager.

i also got same problem long time back

just try the application in compatibility mode and you will your HDD listed in that application.

check in event viewer if there are bad blocks on the hdd. if there are bad blocks then better backup your stuff fast. by first hand experience i've seen that windows is never wrong in such cases.

I am facing few HDDs issues as well.

Posting the SeaTool and HDtune Screenie.

Both of my HDDs are in warranty. Need to RMA it ASAP. 500GB one is just 1 month old. Can anyone explain Ultra DMA CRC Error COunt ? I have replaced the SATA cable thrice.
