Is there any way i can install Windows 7 on a machine with XP already on it?

I have 2*250GB HDDs and tried installing Windows 7 on one of the partitions of my system drive. It always fails. Has anybody been successful in installing Windows 7 without removing or formatting the XP drive?
 
Why cant you install win7 on the 2nd hdd which doesnt have xp? I am currently having Win7 and XP on 2 hdd's and both run without any problem. Disconnect the xp drive before installing Win7. Reconnect after installation is complete and then during boot you can choose which drive to boot into.
