Is this common for postpaid users esp. Vodafone?

I inserted my sim into a new handset (the handset had such offer from vodafone) and got an sms from vodafone that:

Hi! Welcome to Vodafone Nokia offer. Enjoy 1GB free 3G/2G usage per month for 2 months. Your offer will be active in 24 hrs.

Then in 48 hrs I received a confirmation sms from Vodafone that the request has been process and data pack is now active. I check the same from Service commands and yes its showing active on my number..

Fine. And only today I started browsing the net. Hardly surfed google and downloaded some apps not more than 10mbs total.

After 5 hrs now decided to check my balance and was shocked it was Rs. 96.38/- from morning Rs. 6/- :wtf:I dint make any call/sms today just surfed the FREE net.
Then checked my net pack balance and its showing 995.25mb balance.

I immediately had a web chat with Vodafone CC and he said everything will be calculated and discounted on my billing date so need to worry.

But its haunting  me as I just bumped into THIS similar recent thread on another site have exact same issues.

For prepaid I know the net balance gets deducted from internet access without affecting our call balance. But this is first time I'm using any pack on my postpaid no. and getting nightmares. :coldfeet: So unable to decide if everything will be rounded off on billing date or the net access should get minus from the active pack.

Vodafone users here please tell if this is normal or should I escalate the issue??

Yes, this is normal :) They calculate everything in your current bill and then at the time of bill generation it will be adjusted properly. Even I was scared to see the current bill in the portal 1st time.

Omg!! Rs.90 charged for 10-15mb roughly... I cant imagine my balance if I utilize the whole 1gb then.
Man this one scared the shit out of me.
Again I just now talked to their representatives as well and he too assured the same so lets see how it turns on my billing date. :)[DOUBLEPOST=1418400495][/DOUBLEPOST]Irrespective of the plans or pack people are been charged for the data consumed and got no deductions. As described in the above mentioned thread.

With postpaid there are always nightmares and issues and we cant do anything until the cycle date.

This is how everyone does it, unbilled usage does not give effect of any discount packs you have subscribed to. The same will be effected in the bill amount.

Do check and confirm with them that the data pack is active! My wife's reliance postpaid(899) unlimited connection got billed Rs 3000/-for data usage even though she had opted for a 1gb data pack (the morons failed to activate it even though we had the confirmation sms) we were getting a credit limit exceeded message the entire month and none could answer why! Finally the outgoing calls were barred and we were told to pay Rs 3000 and details would be known only after the bill was generated. Paid up coz it was a professional used no. Finally after billing got to know the fiasco! Reliance did refund the paid amount though, but took a lot of effort to get it sorted! So get it confirmed !

Yes in case of postpaid everything is charged normally from your balance. And at the end, on billing date, all the discounts and everything is rounded up and billed to you. This is the process for Postpaid (Irrespective of Vodafone, Airtel etc. etc.)

For E.g. Say your plan offers you 100 min local call free each month and the base tariff of your plan for local call is Rs 1/- per min. Now whenever you'll be making call it'll be charged @ Rs 1/- per min and not will be deducted from that 100 min free local call. At the end on billing date, say you have made calls of 150 mins, then they will deduct 100 min and will charge you for 50 mins. If you have called for 100 mins or anything less that 100 mins then you won't be charged anything for calling.

This is how it works in postpaid. In prepaid, it's totally opposite. Whatever discounts you have like free internet usage, free sms, free call everything is deducted from that free balance so that your main balance remains unaffected, as this is that matters for prepaid users. (Got the logic? :P)

So users coming form prepaid to postpaid often have these queries, even I had too when I shifted to postpaid. Well now it seems like a breeze. And that's why we have the concept of Credit Limit in postpaid. This limit determines how much you can be billed up (Without the discounts) which provides a security too. This value is changed by the provider from time to time according to your usage.
