get comodo firewall
use it with defence+
turn on all advanced options
visit its forums(comodo can be really intimidating for beginners)
comodo antivirus is in beta.
thus get antivir/avg
or even better install ubuntu , forget bout antiviruses,hips,antispyware,rootkits,defragmenting etcetc.

@rahulyo: if you can set your modem to pppoe mode and enter your username/password in the modem webpage and enable dhcp, then ubuntu will work automatically.
if your modem is in bridged mode and you normally do the dialing/connection from windows then i believe you need to run in a terminal "sudo pppoeconf" to setup your connection.

I am using it for approx 2 years( this year v7 earlier v6) without any issues.
