ISP Selection - Pune

Hi,

Unfortunately the run of awesome Tata Indicom 2mbps UL has come to an end for me :| after my change in residence so i am looking for another ISP.

I am residing in Pune. (Kothrud)

Also i used 2mbps UL like crazy and so i am kinda used to UL connections so suggest accordingly :)

As my new house doesn't have a landline, so i am suppose to apply for BSNL Landline (Specifically stated by my parents :@ ) so i guess BSNL might be a decent alternative if the plans suit me. Also how long will it take from Application stage to Installation Stage :ashamed: as i have heard that it takes awful lot for BSNL to give connections. Plus i don't think i would be able to get up at 2 AM and start d/ld and switch it off at 8 AM

If not BSNL then Airtel and Hathway are also available in my areas. Its just that 2yrs back i had kinda bad or average experience of hathway so i am skeptical, still if someone thinks its good, I would consider it.

Oh yeah, Budget.. I don't think i could afford more than 1000/month  Damn why is my area not feasibile for bloody Tata Indicom..

Anyways... Suggestions are welcomed :)

I switched to Airtel a year ago, im living in Kalyanainagar, and i must say, their service has been more than impressive.
im talking a combined downtime of only around 1-2 HOURS over the past year that i've used it.

and obviously, jumped from the 256UL>512UL>1MBPS UL as they released those plans.

excellent speeds, and atleast, im my experience, and a couple of my other friends who use airtel around this area, excellent connectivity.

Although the tarrifs are on the higher side, i would strongly suggest you consider airtel too.

I've been using an airtel connection in Pune for about 2 yrs now, and have only positive things to say about it. The only connection you'll get in a budget of ~Rs.1000 is a 256k unlimited one.

I've had tata, and I'd tried to get a BSNL connection, but Tata sucked big time, terrible customer service, and huge downtimes. For the BSNL connection I had to first get a phone line, and then had to keep making trips to the area office to ask them to check if it was feasible to give me an internet connection. But after 2 months of visiting their office weekly, I just gave up, and went for the airtel. They set it up within 48 hrs, and in about 2 yrs I've had less than 24 hrs downtime totally. I don't think a 256k line can compare to a 2mbps one, but for your budget, I think its your best option.

I'd love to go airtel, (Currently on Tata, earlier bsnl) the trouble is availability in my area(Bibvevadi), IIRC its not available in the TS' area as well.

Hmm.. Even i think Airtel seems to be a logical choice, but we are going to have Landline connection sooner or later so i have to choose between BSNL and Airtel.. I have used Hathway and its service was average at best but its plans are cheap..

Btw where can i find latest tariffs for Airtel ? or its varies from city to city ?

dipen01: simplest way for you is top up with a quick power 720

ask them upgrade you to wimax @ your residence, this way have 2Mbps for another year :)

Arre they are outright saying that My area is not feasible..

He told me to get the Wireless modem (USB waala) . But the speeds are ~150kbps and data transfer has charges so its waste ..

And i am not sure if Wimax is there in Pune, else atleast one of the Tata Representatives would have suggested me that..

hey guys..
i am also planning for internet at Bibewadi area....
what is good? BSNL / Tata / Airtel....
as i am not download crazy i would go for 256/384 kbps plan... preferebaly UL plan but i dont want to spend more than 500-600.

please suggest me a good plan...

I am facing lots of downtimes these days with TATA. And it seems that its only my area that is facing this problem. TATA is ok but BSNL is better IMHO. Airtel no idea; but heard that is gooood. So its all upto you. No Hathway !! Check the plans and then decide.

^^^
Arre all the time that i had Tata.. It was the best service.. Who else will give 2mbps NU at 630Rs/month..

BSNL ka i first have to apply for landline.. which might take months as ppl here say and then BSNL broadband..

Hathway is out i guess due to majority of negative reviews (also my prev exp.)

I need some more info regarding Airtel and Reliance..

Also need to ask if Tata Wimax is available..

Got couple of plans from Reliance (Jpeg attached)

But what about Reliance in Pune ?

Any users..? I havent confirmed if its wired or wifi..

Reliance is ok. Has both normal + WiMax available. depends on location.

I have both reliance + Tata. Both equally frustrating at times :@

Take your pick from whats available your side.

avadhut :- Its Quickpower 180 from TATA.. The Mrp+Tax = 1922/- for 3 months ;)

Its 2Mbps and Night Unlimited.. Although i am not sure if they are still giving new connections.. But if its feasible at Bibwewadi and its the best choice atm :)

Are Airtel is launched in pune.. and there was a pamphlet on my door a week back.. so if my BSNL line gets delayed then i am planning to go with Airtel.. i.e 999/month and 384kbps UL.. Well at 1350/month 512kbps seems tempting but i am tired of waiting now..

Besides ppl say that Airtel has no downtimes and better service compared to BSNL...

Although i am going to enquire about Reliance and abt Tata Wimax..
