Are we in a position to oppose it and more importantly why?
Look, we grew up in an American ordered world. Post WW2, the Americans underwrote the security of Europe, the middle east and the far east. This ushered in the longest period of peace & prosperity the world has ever known.
The life we have become used to depends on the US being the US. Which is the case now under Trump. We don’t need a US that is unsure of itself and indecisive which is exactly what we had under Obama & Biden. That sort of US is a liability for everyone. See Ukraine.
There was a fear that under Trump this would also be the case. So far and fortunately I'm seeing no evidence of an isolationist US, the kind being advocated by people like Tucker Carlson. Such a hands off policy isnt suitable for a middle power like India let alone a global power like the US.
eg. I advocate for India to have levers in every single country we have borders with. That we have the ability to disrupt if needed, the affairs in any of those states. Either you shape your neighbourhood or it shapes you. PERIOD.
There are certain truisms that apply to every leading power. Whether they like it or not. You have no idea how relieved a neocon like me is to see this change.
Why?
Iran was given a choice and a deadline.
Iran chose to ignore it. Play for time because this is just another dumbass US president.
Anyone opposing what Israel or the US is doing is clueless of the dangerous consequences of inaction. This action was due over a decade back but was stifled. Better late than never.
People go on about WW3. Let me make this real simple.
Not acting on Iran enables WW3.
Acting on Iran prevents it
