Today I checked with Overnite Express - they ship mobile at no extra cost. But the packing has to be done in front of them.

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

Also one good thing that I noticed with Overnite Express is when I handed them the package they gave me two paper stickers with serial no. on them, I signed on them, they also did and put the AWB no on it. Then pasted it on the package on two different places. They also put the sticker serial no on the AWB as seal no.

So, I think their mechanism is quite theft proof. I am seeing couriers using this type of mechanism first time. So, I think I'd use Overnite Express in future.

This is really unfortunate. This is not the first time we've heard such cases with DTDC.

I think we need to figure out the best courier services and only use them and boycott the unreliable ones like DTDC. Yes, good service comes at a cost but it's not worth all the mental tension and inconvenience that may arise by using substandard courier services like DTDC.

But we can only control what courier services we use in terms of market sales etc. but there's definitely a problem when buying stuff from ebay etc. as we have no control over what courier the ebay dealers or other online shopping portals use, hence it is really scary indeed to go shop online after reading all this.

As far as I can gather from this thread, it seems Bluedart, DHL and TNT are the best ones.

Hope something works out for the OP and the seller to minimize the losses as much as possible.

This is what I'm talking about - see the top right corner.

^^ There is no fool proof way....for eg if you ship a mobile via Professional courier 99% chance is that they will steal it...even if u pack it like a tank :P
+1, i have seen professional courier guys throwing shipments from their mini-truck on to footpath in front of their office/franchise in bangalore(in front of cosmos mall, brookefields)

Use any courier you want. Just pack very well and a small prayer for the package. :). Thats what i will do from now.

From now on i will either go for india post or bluedart, though 1st preference will be the govt service :P

^ Indian speed post- safest, cheap and guaranteed delivery in any corner of the country. But have patience as they could delay as twice than the expected time frame. They do have optional insurance too.

Well,

Let Me Also Hop In DTDC Owes Me Around 1 Lakh For Stolen And Damaged Parcels And i am Going To The Court This Time .

speed is not the problem but safety is the main issue these days :)

Now thats the reason i prefer local sale for electronic items coz sm time back i faced similar issue sending an msi mobo to a friend in lucknow.

The mobo was packed firmly in its box with all accessories + extra plastic was used so that it wont shake in extreme conditions. The box was fully tapped with brown tape with double packed with full TOI newspaper followed by another clear tape with a white paper mentioning the recipients add.

Even after this, my friend received the mobo with the box having cut at lower side & slight tampering with the taping but all was in place.:fatigue:

Dtdc never ever updates the status on their site properly. I received a cellphone from two members here and even after receiving it was showing its in transit. wtf?:@

I dont really know whether to whom shall we trust?? dtdc, dhl, bluedart, tnt...coz no matter what, if its gonna get stolen it will be stolen!!

I would any day trust India Post more than these private companies (barring few). India post even does excellent job when things are to be sent outside India. I guess they have the cheapest rates. I have had once received a parcel of 5 Kgs sent from India to China through India post (not speed post since those guys goofed up and sent using normal instead of speed post) and still i got the parcel in 4 days flat. This was excellent service and best part is that it cost us less than 1500 rupees.

US rates are even cheaper (probably because of more volume of parcels there)

I had imported 150 blurays from USA,all send via USPS got them via Speed post...
Not a single shipment had issues...
Speed post has issues with some places like Jammu and Kashmir in India..
Slow but Reliable

There is no way at all a BlueDart or TNT parcel can be tampered with . Most importantly their rates are pretty reasonable for the kind of the service they provide (next business day guaranteed delivery for all Metros).

I recently got a iPhone 4 shipped from Mumbai to Ahmadabad for only 430 bucks and a Galaxy tab weighing 1kg for 550 bucks :). BlueDart is the way to go.
Please share the details of Bluedart office from where you availed their service. I've pmed you about this as well.

just want to add one important point in the discussion.

if using DTDC,always declare the exact product and not just electronic goods as they scan every item before sending and if declaration is not correct there is high probability of theft by local guys.

I got this info from one of the DTDC branch.

Even I have heard this from a reliable source in TNT. It seems that each reputed courier has a central scanning system in place for all zones where all the parcels are scanned prior to dispatch.

And as vivacious_tg points out, it is easier for the thieves to steal the goods once they are sure that the contents have not been declared by the sender accurately.

Who wants to hide what he is sending? But these courier cos. simply reject electronic items esp. cellphones and dvd players by giving reasons like they are not allowed to ship or ask us for the original purchase receipt so that its not a stolen item. Thats why many people simply prefer to say its an electronic item, durable & so handle with care or sending a gift to my xyz.

Now who shall be blamed for this??

Many a times people want to hide what they are sending just to save on shipping costs. So, say if BlueDart charges 1k for shipping a cellphone, I tell them that my package (a cellphone) is just a toy and ship it for 150 rupees.
