I wanted to get a 3G Connection as a backup for my existing BSNL Broadband connection.

I went to their outlet and got a demo 3G 3.6Mbps Stick to test it in my house. It worked fine. I got around 0.8Mbps speed.

So I went ahead to purchase the modem from the outlet. They told me that they have 2 modems, a 3.6Mbps one and another 7.2Mbps.
So I chose the 7.2Mbps modem, even though I had tested the demo on 3.6Mbps modem.

Now when I was trying to browse after the first recharge, i was unable to browse any site. The max speed I got was 64Kbps, which is like way too low.
But when I put the same sim in my phone, I get a speed of 0.8Mbps.

Has anyone faced the same issue?

Very basic question. There would be an optin in setting/options of network mode. It should be selected as auto mode or wcdmaonly. If you select gasm only, you will only get 2g connection with speeds like you are getting. You can confirm network you are getting at the bottom left corner of the dashboard, it should show HSDPA or WCDMA.

Kindly check this out.

Yeah i tried all those options already. I tried manual, i tried HSPDA, i tried EDGE. All give same speeds.
The network i get at the left upper corner is EDGE right now. Edge should be 2G. I dunno why 2G?

Yes it is 3G enabled. It seems some reception issue with this modem, as when i took my laptop out of my house, it worked.
The demo modem which they gave had no such issues and also if i put the sim in my Nokia N8, it works well.
