I have been facing problem with pen drives alone. When ever i connect a pen drive i get the following pop up error message

The USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a High Speed USB 2.0 port.

First i though my pen drive is the culprit but no it happens with all pen drives and not with external HDD's :S.Tried reinstalling USB drivers still the same issue and speeds are bad just to copy a 700MB file it takes 15 to 20 mins

I checked all the pen drives with HD Tune and it was fine there.I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. This error started appearing only a few weeks back

Thanks in advance

First state your pc config mate. In your mobo BIOS you will have to enable High speed USB (by default its set to HIGH). Moreover i havent heard about any usb drivers for windows 7 !!! ???... For windows 7 you dont require usb drivers. Those are integrated in the OS itself and are best AFAIK.. You may try your drives in a different pc or a different O/s and check.

By external drives you mean those which are powered from the power socket (ex. seagate freeagent desktop) or those which draw power from the USB ports (ex. seagate freeagent GO )??

I have a Toshiba A305 Laptop .I never faced issue till last week .Why now ??.Have a Dell Inspiron,Samsung R470 and a HP DV 6 Laptop with all of them i get same error.

Updated BIOS still the same issue and i cannot find the option to select high speed USB

Can a virus be responsible for such an issue ??. Have'nt heard of this kind of issue...

Did you check your pen drives in some other pc or scanned it for viruses ?. Format it under windows 7 repair mode and check in your friends pc...

^Nope this is surely not a virus, even i too faced the same issue, but i got solved automatically (don't know how??)

Scanned computer no virus .I am yet to format it under windows 7 repair mode.I have tried in friends PC as well all of us are facing same issue.I will post HD tune results tommorow .

@MetalSpree Does this happen on your Laptop ? And are there USB ports on Both sides of the Laptop? I mean on the Left as well as to the Right ?

If yes then this will be a old USB 1.0 port for connecting your Mouse as a Mouse doesn't require USB 2.0 .... The Other side will have regular USB 2.0 Ports.

I have the same on my XPS 1530

Not sure what i said was correct. But its same with me. Hope whatever i have been consoling myself these 1.5 years was correct :D

My mobo has all usb 2.0 port, yesterday when i inserted my external HDD in the front port, it gave the usb2.0 warning, i removed my hdd and inserted it in my mobo backside port, after that the problem got solved, now i can insert it in the front ports without any issue.

Though the OS gives usb 2.0 warning i feel that the speed is same, i tried to transfer a 700mb file it took just 55sec in both the case.

Guess: Is it possible that your OS usb 2.0 drives got corrupt or something.
