Laptops issues with dell inspiron 14R

Guys, i got my inspiron 14R this week and got time to work on it today.
Specs:
i3- 330
4GB RAM
500GB HDD
Ati 5470 1GB

I was doing a comparison with my older Sony Vaio cw
specs:
i5- 520
4GB RAM
500GB HDD
Nvidia GT 330M

Now the things i didnt like about the inspiron 14R
-gives out a plastic smell, whenever i work on it
-display seems to be on the darker side with a bluish tint
-runs VERY VERY hot compared to the Vaio.
Vaio - 2 cores between 25-30 and 2 cores on 18-25 degrees. rarely seen them cross 30 degrees, but the gpu temp is mostly around 50c
vs
inpron 14R - 2 cores are between 55c-60c and other 2 around 50c. Not sure why speedfan does not detect the gpu.It does not show GPU temperature
- A major issue i am facing now is that i am not able to play any HD movies.i have installed media player classic and tried to play a 720p movie. Movie starts and within few seconds, screen goes blank.Nothing works. have to restart it again.
Anybody else facing this problem?
 
Your CPU Heatsink probably isn't dissipating the heat properly.
Have it reseated. With new thermal compound applied.
That should help.

As for the GPU, have no idea how hot it should run.

Screen going blank, does the temp spike? does it trigger the motherboard safety temperature shutdown?
Or is it a driver issue?

Look into it.
 
@Tron05 ~ Dont tried to do it yourself Hardware experiments as it may avoid your laptop warranty atleast for a year. Take it to the service center and tell them to do it for you like resetting of heat sink by applying new paste.
