I just bought a new Seagate Hdd. Model no. ST3500320AS. Its a 500gb, 32mb buffer hard disk.

Only Seatools, which is Seagate's own utility, and the latest version of Everest, no other program is able to display the buffer size. I tried HD Tune, Sisoft Sandra. Pl. see the attached pic.

Also HD Tune is showing some SMART parameters in yellow. Is this serious?

^ HD Tune showing those 2 things in Yellow is perfectly ok.....shows the same for my Sata Seagate as well...and the same for many more here as well.....if seatools is able to go ahead and show u the buffer size properly then dont bother , its fine....just run a few benchmarks using HDTach and see if all is fine :) ......make use of the new hdd and don't let it bother u... :) cheers

32MB buffer will be displayed as 0MB..due to hardware limitations.

32 is denoted as 100000 in binary.(6bits)

but the there are only 5bits on hdd to display this buffer size(using SMART)

so the left most bit (6th bit... i.e. 1) can not be displayed.

thus u get 00000 (0MB buffer) as the output from SMART.

nuthin to worry.

the results are fine.

@madnav

Thanks for the explanation. I was wondering why the buffer size wasnt displayed. But now I know. And relieved to know that the speeds are good too!
