Ohk I got a used Iphone 2G 16GB few days back .

Installed Itunes 8.2 64 bit version .I am using Windows 7 64bit RC-7100 build.

The Iphone gets detected as a digital camera and shows as a storage device in My Computer. But Itunes wont detect it ,no matter what :@

I ve been googling and trying to find a solution since 2-3 days .but nothing seems to work.

Ive tried this

Chris123NT's Blog Get iPod Touch/iPhone Working in Windows 7 x64

and a lot of other guides related to manually detecting the drivers ,running in compatibility mode etc

I tried connecting the Phone on friend's PC which has windows XP 32 bit and Iphone gets detected.

Ive lost all hopes as of now. Thought of posting on TE to check it some is able to sync Iphone with Win 7 64bit. if nothing works I will have to install a copy of XP just to sync the phone. :@

Any help will be appreciated.

anyone :ashamed: ? sorry for being impatient .

but it's been 3 days ,i am not able to add any new stuff the phone :(.

Faheem I suspect this might be an OS issue. Try the iphone on some other computer which has a different OS.

Funny.. I'm on Win7 x64 and iTunes x64 detects my 2G iPhone just fine.

Might as well try this...

  1. Go to computer management... by either
    • Right clicking on computer in start menu and clicking on mange
    • Going into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Manage
    • Type "manage" in Start Menu search bar and you should see Computer Management listed in results. Click on it.
  2. Go to Services and Applications.
  3. Check if Apple Mobile Device service is listed in there. If it is there, make sure that it's set to Automatic under start-up type and it's running. If it's not there, then you'll have to probably re-install iTunes. This service is basically responsible to iPhone detection and interaction with iTunes.

Although, I don't have problems iTunes syncing and detecting my iPhone, I do have one weird bug under Win7. Everytime I connect my iPhone, system detects it and says "installing driver for blah blah blah..", every single time. It is suppose to be one time process, when you connect a device for first time. But it does it every time for my iPhone. Rest of my devices load just darn fine. All my thumb-drives, cameras and stuff had their drivers installed on first connection and now it connects just fine. But for iPhone it happens everytime and once drivers are installed iPhone is detected just fine.

Not that it hampers any functionality... but the additional time to wait for drivers to load is kinda irritating. :P

Oh and another thing... what FW version you're using on iPhone?

Firmware is 2.21 and i checked in services.msc , the apple mobile device service is started.

iGO can you just check what driver files is your Iphone using.

Go to Device Manger and check what drivers are being used for the Iphone ?

^ Try this

Apparently when you plug your iPhone in to your computer, Windows will "sometimes" install the drivers as a camera, putting them in the wrong place. This is why it will pop up in Windows so you can take photos off, but iTunes can't see it. SO, what you have to do is move the driver file (USBAAPL.SYS) to the correct location. Follow the directions I found below & your iTunes should be fixed (worked for me):

What works is to just force the drivers on what windows thinks is a camera, i.e. to ‘update’ the device to use the correct driver. There are some hints on how to do this already listed on this forum, but I’ll try to give some more detailed information:

1. First off you need to have iTunes installed and the ipod touch plugged in

and recognized as ‘something’ e.g. digital camera (it shouldn’t really

matter what it’s recognized as, but it needs to be found by windows).

2. Search for usbaapl in the C:\WINDOWS system folder:

o open windows explorer (e.g. Right-click Start and then click ‘explore’)

o right-click the WINDOWS folder and select ‘Search’).

o type in usbaapl and hit Search – try to ignore the dog!

You should find the driver info in a sub folder of

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE e.g. C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_A65621D65F5B7 507DD7B22331826547BDD2D206B

Remember that location (either leave the search box open or copy the folder

name into note pad – you’ll need it later)

If you don’t find usbaapl.sys, usbaapl.inf etc. then your drivers have not

been installed with the iTunes install and you’ll have to reinstall iTunes.

3. Locate the ipod-camera device:

o Open the device manager, e.g. using Start > Control Panel >

Performance and Maintenance > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager

o Look for a device called ‘ipod’ - if your ipod shows up as

‘digital camera’ it will be under something like ‘imaging devices’.

4. Update the driver:

o Right click the ‘ipod-camera’ in device manager and click on

‘Update Driver’ – the Hardware Update Wizard will open.

o Check the ‘Install from a list or specific location’ then click ‘Next’

o Check ‘Search for the best driver in these locations’. Un-check

‘Search removable media’ and check ‘Include this location in the search’.

In the text box below type (or better copy and paste) the folder

containing the ipod driver information found in step 1 (in the example

above it was C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_A65621D65F5B7 507DD7B22331826547BDD2D206B),

then click Next.

You should now see something like ‘Apple ipod device driver’ or so. Continue

installing that device. Once the driver has been installed the ipod will come

to life and iTunes (if you have it open) will show it.

Apple iTune Problem Resolution

backup all your photos to your computer when detected as digital camera, now delete all photos on iphone and disconnect the wire and reconnect

I'm not sure if this is problem of your FW version... which I suppose shouldn't be, but I'm running both my iPhones on 3.0 and both have no issues connecting to iTunes x64 on Win7 x64.

Anyway, here's screenshot of driver files....

EDIT : Rats... I forgot to select the driver file so you can see the version... anyway, the main files usbaapl64.sys and usbaaplerc.dll both's version number is 1.43.0.0.

Thanks a lot Yogi :). One small request,if possible can you arciheve and send me those 3 driver files ? I cant find them in my system32 folder :S.

I will try manually updating the drivers with your files and see if it works.

EDIT :

I checked my driver files. Its only using "usbaapl64.sys" from syster32/drivers folder and nothing else. Version is 1.38.00 :S.

^ Did u manually tried installing mobile driver support installation from newest iTunes installer?

If not, I suggest you uninstall iTunes, remove all dependent files and clean-install iTunes. After which, extract iTunes installer (WinRAR) and manually install Mobile Driver Support over it.

Anyway, I'm sending you the drivers files... here's link : Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire

Make sure that you put them in proper folders (you'll also probably have to manually register them)... but I would still suggest using installer before trying manually replacing files.

:D

Because all of the solutions were horrible, I had to create an acct on this board.

Here's the fix:
All you need to do is goto the device manager, open every folder until you find the iphone. Once you do that right click the iphone, goto properties, then choose the driver tab. Select update driver and you are good to go.

I have Vista x64 and I have a iPod Touch 8GB 2G (FW 3.0). My iPod also gets detected as a Digital Camera, but my iTunes detects my iPod. Update the FW if its not much of an hassle and also update iTunes and check. It should fix this issue.
