We are nearing the end of January, and what a fantastic month it has been for us tech fans. Apart from CES 2013, we have seen a slew of new tablets and smartphones by Indian manufacturers. So here's a round up of some of the top 7" (or related size) tablets that might help you out with your buying decision.
1. Karbonn Smart Tab 8

The Karbonn Smart Tab 8 is an 8" tablet, as the name would suggest. This tablet is one of the more *wanted tablets thanks to it's powerful 1.5 GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 based CPU as well as the newer Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean OS.

2. iBerry Auxus CoreX2

iBerry recently launched their Ausux CoreX2 tablet. This is a complete package tablet with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, an IPS HD 7" display, 1 GB or RAM and 8 GB of internal storage.
The iBerry Auxus CoreX2 is a dual core tablet by iBerry. Apart from this, the iBerry Auxus CoreX2 is a smaller 7″ tablet. Also, it comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and packs only 1 GB of RAM. As you can clearly see, the iBerry Auxus CoreX2 cuts down on many features from the higher end iBerry Auxus CoreX4 tablet.

iBerry Auxus CoreX2 Specifications

  • 1.6 GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 CPU
  • ARM Mali-400 MP2 (dual core) GPU
  • 1 GB of DDR3 RAM
  • 7″ (1280*800) IPS LCD display
  • 2 MP rear camera, 0.3 MP front camera
  • 8 GB of internal storage
  • expandable storage upto 64 GB via micro SD card

  • 9.7 mm thick, 312 grams weight
  • 4,100 mAh battery

Cost of this tablet is a bit on the higher side. At Rs. 10,990 the premium is pretty high, but you are pretty much getting the best of 7" tablets.

3. Wicked Leak Wammy Desire

Wicked Leak is doing good these days. They have launched a slew of devices which include 4.7" Wammy Sensation and a 5.5" phablet (clones of Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note II). They have also launched a few tablets into the market, and Wammy Desire is one of them.

Wammy Desire Specifications

  • 1.5 GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 CPU
  • ARM Mali 400MP2 dual core GPU
  • 1 GB of DDR3 RAM
  • 7" WVGA (800*480 pixels) capacitive display
  • 8 GB of internal storage
  • up to 32 GB of expandable storage via microSD card
  • Front facing VGA camera for video calling

  • 3000 mAh Li-ion battery, continuous use of about 6 hours

The tablet comes pre-loaded with many games and apps such as "Spiderman, Hero of Sparta, Nova, Gun Bros" and other apps. It's good to see a tablet
Wicked Leak Wammy Desire @ Rs. 6,499

For a tablet costing 6.5k, you get a lot of features. 1 GB of RAM and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is going to make a lot of people happy, and attract many more to consider this tablet. We feel that this tablet represents very good value. If you're okay with the brand, then go ahead with it!
4. Karbonn Smart Tab 2

Karbonn Smart Tab 2 is the only single core entrant to this list of tablets. Single core is out of fashion, but not when you just need a basic tablet for watching movies or reading books. In that case, a single core tablet suffices as well as helps bring the cost of the tablet down.

Karbonn Smart Tab 2 Specifications

  • 1.2 GHz single core XBurst CPU
  • Vivante GC860 GPU
  • 512 MB DDR2 RAM
  • 7" WVGA (800*480) capacitive display
  • 2 MP primary camera
  • 1 GB of internal storage
  • up to 32 GB of expandable storage via microSD card
  • 3,700 mAh battery, 7 hours of usage
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS

The processor is an MIPS architecture based whose performance is a little lower than it's ARM counterparts. Despite that, this tablet represents excellent value for all that it offers.
Karbonn Smart Tab 2 @ Rs. 5,699 - Saholic

There are tablets that are even cheaper than the Smart Tab 2, but in my opinion this tablet has a balance of features as well as price, which gives it a higher value for money overall.

Hope this tablets guide helps you make a buying decision.

The Karbonn ST8 seems to have a pathetic touchscreen. Check out igyaan video reviews. Not sure whether its a good buy because of this issue.

It does? Had no idea about that. Bad display as in? Viewing angles?

Bad viewing angles can be tolerated.
Touch sensitivity is pretty off. The igyaan team says its pretty bad and is a deal breaker.

i have tested micromax funbook infinity yesterday which costs <5k .. it has below average display quality , but touch sensitivity is ok, battery life is very good, speakers and audio output is good.Performance is also satisfactory, ran temple run 2 without much lag on max settings. camera is below avg..
so overall a good buy at 4.5k ..
