Japan likes Gears, they really like it!

Gears of War, released last week in Japan in a shocking turn of events has sold out across the country! Despite a high score from the highly acclaimed Famitsu most analyst were certain that Gears of War, which is a western title would not do very well in the anti FPS country of Japan. The demo has drawn crowds throughout stores across Japan and Microsoft now has to scramble to restock store shelves. Will Gears of War help Microsoft win the war in Japan? Highly doubtful but it is a step in the right direction for Microsoft and the Xbox in Japan.

GOW is a great game so there's no reason not to love it. Hopefully, I'll get a taste of it tommorrow. Also, Blue dragon is doing well but Lost planet has been getting mixed reactions.
 
From what i hear the language localization, over the shoulder view helped a lot in GOW gaining popularity. Japanese people tend to suffer from motion sickness which is one of the reasons FPS gaming hasn't taken off there.
 
Actually, motion sickness is the only reason why I'm also not into FPS's that much. I remember getting headaches 15 mins after playing Half Life on the PC.

Maybe its the same with the Japanese, no wonder they dig RPG's over anything else.

Refresh rate might be the culprit here ;). Set it to whatever max refresh rate you monitor allows. I am assuming you are using a CRT monitor.
 
Yes at that time, I was using a CRT and surely it must've been on 60hz refresh rate. But I further noticed the sickness even when playing FPS's on the Ps2, not that severe though (takes me an hour to notice the sickness when playing Black, for instance).
 
I had played GOW for a bit on the Xbox, nothing to stand out honestly, but then again, I didn't play that much, just 2 hours or so. If they think gears of war is good they should have a go through the surface tension level of half life 1!!!

You will literally faint after playing Quake 1 or Quake 3 cpma mod lol.
