Hi Guys

I always used to wonder why certain products secially use japanese capacitors.

Even i have seen certain product advertisements in mags of the products
which specify and stress more on the Japnese Capacitors than there product.

Whats so special abt it are capacitors not made in other countries :D

Really wanted to know this & also dont laugh on me please for this silly question.

Abit had a few issues with Taiwanese caps leaking the electrolyte, causing a major fiasco. So now, Jap caps like Rubycon are advertised.. they tend to be more reliable than the Taiwanese ones.. they are needed for good power regulation around the CPU socket.

IMHO, there's not much of a difference between a Taiwanese and a Japanese
capacitor, other than the psychological one. Ever since boardmakers like Abit
and MSI had problems with some bad supplies of capacitors, the reputation of
Taiwanese cap-makers has gone down in the eyes of users and the Internet
media in particular.

On many forums, you'll notice people shouting how the quality of ThinkPads has
deteriorated since Lenovo took over the IBM PC business. They'll also recommend
that you look for a laptop made in Japan in place of China, Korea or Taiwan.
What they don't realize is that countries don't have anything do with a certain
product quality. It all depends on the QA of any given company.

Almost all boardmakers are based in Taiwan, be it ASUS, MSI, GigaByte or Foxconn.
If Taiwanese products were so bad, we would be looking for Japanese boards
in no time. This is absurd. And DFI seems to have realized this weakness of
their customers so well as to specifically mark their boards as having Japanese
capacitors. I call it Marketing.

Thanks for the info TechHead & Yamaraj.

Heard abt Rubycon caps from Sunny when he replaced it in his psu with the old caps.

More info is welcome.

There is a slight difference in quality mainly due to the stricter testing methods that Japanese manufacturers adopt...they have a strict policy that things should be perfect from their side....and are usually ready to bear losses if anything goes wrong their side....

Going back a bit.....people used to demand Casio calculators made in Japan, but nowadays we see more casio's made in China......The Japan made ones are coveted moreso because of their corporate policy of undeniable quality...

That being said the manufacturing/fab plants for these capacitors is the same (I mean same in quality etc, be it in Taiwan or Osaka....like I said the difference comes in material standards, testing, acceptance levels etc.
Phillips has also been advertising japanese caps in their products....

In India as of now, its all marketing hype.....as yamaraj said...
