this might be a case of curropt java runtime files or a situation of corrupt winsock files, have u tried firefox ? does the same happen there ...

here is what u should do --

1) Restore all IE settings to default....
2) Ensure there is no firewall blocking the access to java or IE....
3) uninstall the java runtime files.....
4) Reinstall the same ....get it from here....
Java Runtime Environment Free Download
Its the basic runtime enviournment , if it needs more it will automatically download and install.....
5) Download WinSock XP Fix download and review - fix XP internet connectivity from SnapFiles and run it and reboot.....

pls get back with results :)
^^ p.s : all above mentioned pts are generic , a screenshot of the exact error message or u mentioning the exact error message would be gr8 help in solving the issue.......

Hi Hanzy,

first of all thanks a lot for your prompt response...

I shall answer your questions step by step :

1 Yes i do face the same issue with firefox as well.
2 I have tried to restore the IE settings to default .. problem exixts :(
2 No there is firewall stopping Java or IE (I do have a Sysgate firewall but i
have disabled it and the problem still persists..)
3 How do i uninstall the Java run time files ?

as this is an issue with my home PC i shall do the needful once i am back as you have suggested.

Thanks again..

1. If u face the same in firefox , then this would be a browser hijack or an issue with the winsock files. please check on that.....

2. uninstallation is from >Add/Remove Programs --> It will be listed as :
J2SE Development Kit OR J2SE Runtime Enviournment. Uninstall it just the way u would uninstall any other product.

3. This might be a concern with a spyware attack too, did u have one recently ?

4. Best u can get the kit of : JDK 5.0 Update 14
from Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5

Browser issues are many a times PITA , a lot of patience and a lot of things will solve it eventually :)

Bingo after removing JRE and installing JDK5 my issue is solved :))

thanks a lot for your help ...

but the adobe issue persists .. please do write back ...

As far as possible stick to IE6 , its way better than IE7 IMO....however if u like IE7 so much , FIREFOX! is the way to go , regarding the acrobat reader issue ? do u mean to say that u can't install acrobat anymore or u cant use the convertor anymore , however in both the cases u need to

1) How To Uninstall Adobe Products at Instant Registry Fixes
2) Reinstalling using the installer.

Should fix either of the issues.
