Jio Airfiber

@awestorr dont take it never ever its only good for backup connection many forums are filled with the downtime and the quality air fiber is providing.

It cant compare with FTTH stick with bsnl for now, and if you get it dont expect the claimed speeds and the pings are horrible

Asking because i m currently using bsnl but have received a jio airfibre offer in my locality.
the only added benefit is free channels+ott.

As i m very happy with bsnl and its uptime.
one thing that i wanted to ask is jiofibre as restrictive as people say?
For example any site banned in india can be accessed using cloudflare in bsnl, will it be the same with jio?

Don't fix what ain't broke. Jio should almost always be the last option for almost everybody. Wireless should almost always be the last option if you have option for wired. Consistency is much more important than speed. Wireless can never provide the same consistency as a wired connection. You may get 0.5 mbps in one moment and 500 mbps the next. I would prefer a consistent 10mbps connection to such an erratic connection.

Hello, I'm considering getting a 5g device and run hotspot instead of Jio AirFiber.

Also I'm considering Jio 1559 annual value plan however I'm not sure if they'll offer Unlimited 5g for the entire period.

Any thoughts on this approach?

I think their Unlimited 5G "Welcome Offer" is ending soon so don't commit for one year.

Oh I see. I was under the impression that once recharged they wouldn't reneg on the offer coz they're advertising in Red about unlimited 5g. I wasn't able to find any fineprint on this apart from some vaguely answered Q&A, if you do come across anything could you please share it here.

I just read news that they will stop (when no clue) free 5G but I don't know if it will be applicable to someone who recharged for like full year. I really doubt.
 
I have this as a failover/ load balancing line for home.
It's great as a backup because its (mostly) immune to fiber cuts and prolonged outages.
However I would never recommend it as a primary connection unless there is no other choice

Just take a look at the avg RTT in the graph below (pay attention to the Y axis - Yellow is Airtel and blue is Jio Air)

How have you configured failover/load balancing? Which routers?

If the requirement is simply for fail over then tp link er605 should be enough.

Opnsense needs a decent x64 machine to run and is overkill for this requirement alone

Opnsense will run fine on x86 thin client like HP T620 as long as you dont enable IDS and such. I had Opnsense on T620 for a long time with dual WAN. As the processor is weak, you will need to be patient with upgrades and loading of blocklists on bootup etc though

Yeah mostly getting close to 100 mbps up and down everywhere from whatever minimal testing I've done so far.... I wanted 300 mbps plan but not available for now.

Packet loss is a bit high though , 5 to 10 % but I don't do gaming, only videoconferencing should be able to handle it... I'm concerned a bit about long-running connections like SSH logins (but you can run the "screen" tool for that)...

In any case this is mostly for backup use when/if my main wired connection(s) drop.

edit:

I think this is not possible but can the WiFi radio of the router be disabled, either via the web UI or the MyJio app? I have the JIDU6101 model...
