I ported my Idea number to JIO prepaid plan.

My initial plan was to use INR 149 Plan, that give 4 GB data. I did some calculations.

149/28 = INR 5.32 Per day.

I purchased pan INR 399/- for 70 days as cost is same, but 70 GB data with this plan.

399/70 = INR 5.7 per day

I looked at post paid plan, that looks costly

Starter plan is INR 309 for billing cycle, i assume it is monthly price. Why is this so ? The prepaid plans are temporary ? Why anyone buy post paid plan is it cost much more than prepaid ?

Make sure you include the daily data in your daily cost calculation. 149 gives 150mb per day while the others give you 1gb daily. 150mb is barely enough for very light use like whatsapp, browsing etc. even moderate use of youtube etc. will easily cross 500mb-1gb

Prepaid plans were always cheaper than postpaid plans (exception corporate plans). Its like that for couple of decades. Idea used to offer unlimited 2G ( dont remember whether its was 2g or 3g exactly) for 500 bucks for prepaid and 1000 bucks for postpaid in 2010. Their excuse for such difference in plan charges was, prepaid users cant afford high charges. So postpaid users were being looted for a long time now.

Even now all operators have 250 bucks or 350 bucks pm plans ( that too excluding gst charges) which offer same benefits compared to prepaid plans costing approx 150 pm. Earlier it used to be comfort and convenience (and corporate users/ reimbursements ) with regards to postpaid users. But with online recharging sites that advantage became redundant (expect corporate users). So reason for costly postpaid plans for TSPs is simple. Milk people as much as possible who dont mind.

JIO Postpaid looks vague to me.. Also Jio prepaid recharge can be done before expiry itself since you can recharge early and queue it. Earlier AVOID used to Overlap present plan if you'd a new recharge, overall i guess Jio prepaid is great compared to Postpaid.[DOUBLEPOST=1511676296][/DOUBLEPOST]

  • 459/84 = 5.46 /day
  • 499/91= 5.48 /day

I preferred RC 499 since you need not worry for the next 91 days.

So the difference between say the 399 and 499 is just 6 rupees a month. That's not really something even worth considering IMO. is there anything else i'm missing?

Taxes might be extra. I read ( not sure) TSPs have decided to absorb gst in prepaid teriff itself while charging it extra for postpaid users.
