Hey guys i just completed my B.E in Electronics from Mumbai university,Atlast:hap2:
Now i am in a dilemma.
After going through 'MBA or MS' headache,Finally decided to do MS.
So will be flying to states next year.
Now i have one year and nothing to do except for GRE and TOEFL.
Now can anyone advise some bright career options.
Any certified courses i can do in this 1 year,i was thinking of CCNA.Any light on this?Is it worth it.
If i pursue my whole career doing networking inc a masters in n/w,is it a bright option to choose for?
Any other options from you all will be helpful.
Plz help me out on this,as what i do at this stage is going to mould my whole life?

Well get some certification as they would help u abroad... But prepare fully for GRE cause if u get good score u can get into Stanford or even Berkely...

Why didnt you write for admission to this academic year? I find a lot of northies waste a year in preparing for GRE/CAT.

Work experience carries a lot of worth. And GRE scores are not as important when apping to stan or ucb, tho high scores are preferred. They tend to look at your research papers, projects and work experience relevant to the applied course. Why dont you join IIT as a research assisstant? Pay will be low, but work wont be very tough and you will have time to prepare for GRE. And its a good experience too :)

Raghu.

prepare for CAT instead along with the vocabulary part of the GRE. That way you can take both exams at the same time, and can choose your options accordingly.

Alternatively, you could try for the UK - UK has some good universities for engineering, and the education is a lot cheaper there, and if you have really good academics in college and high school, you can get around 50% scholarship on a fee of approximately 10000 pounds.

One of my friends got a scholarship of 70% on a fee of 10000 and also a monthly stipend of 300 pounds. Thats quite nice actually, considering you can finish your PG in the UK in one year and save one year compared to doing a MS in the US for 2 years. If you apply to a scottish uni, then you can get a work permit there for 2 years directly after finishing your PG.

Err why don't you apply for a job? You could do your studies on the side. Why waste a year doing nothing :S.

^ agree to that, wasting time sitting at home is not worth it. Wasting time at home is the most depressive things of all. Ideally, GRE should be prepared right from sem-V of B.E, but since you havent prepared, I'd recommend either doing a job or going to the UK, if you have good academics, and you recieve a generous scholarship.
