:hap2: One of the best multimedia players around, Freeware.

K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools. Codec is short for Compressor-Decompressor. Codecs are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video. This Codec Pack is designed as a user-friendly solution for playing all your movie files. You should be able to play all the popular movie formats and even some rare formats.

The K-Lite Codec Pack has a couple of major advantages compared to other codec packs: It it always very up-to-date with the latest versions of the codecs; It is very user-friendly and the installation is fully customizable, meaning that you can install only those components that you really want; It has been very well tested, so that the package doesn't contain any conflicting codecs; It is a very complete package, containing everything you need to play your movies; and has different packages.

Basic contains only the most essential things. It contains everything you need to be able to play the most popular and widespread formats. It is small enough to fit on a single floppy. Also great for including on your movie CDs.

Well, whatever experience i have with Videos,etc.... Codec Packs should never be used.

Just install the latest FFDShow and what ever player you wish to use ( mplayer,bsplayer,vlc) and you should be fine.

d3fi4nt, the codecs are integrated with media player classic, so be rest assured, it is the best possible video player, try it first :)

mplayer == media player classic.

The point to avoid any codec pack is that it comes with a lot of unnecesary codecs which are not need, and with other encoders which are not needed for normal.

FFDshow will help you do everything u need from postprocessing to correction in aspect ratio.

Those who are into downloading videos from p2p and other sites, you never know what misterious codec the video may have encoded in, codec packs work there.

Though i'll agree with the fact that is still installs extra codecs which the general user may never use.

Thanks but no thanks, as i know what mplayer is, my point is all the points you are making about ffdshow are already present in k-lite, also you can choose on what codecs you want to install & you can even install codecs for just playback, it is fairly versatile if you know what you are doing :)

anyways, we all have our opinions & favorites ;)

codec packs are evil. defiant is right. i'd really recommend not using any codec packs including k-lite. just use ffdshow. with codec packs, its very easy to have decoding conflicts which can cause poor playback, quality and a whole lot of other things (i do quite a bit of testing with different codecs and encoding so i've experienced all of this myself). oh, 2 weeks back someone i know had problems playing an x264 file that i had encoded even though he installed ffdshow and the other things necessary to decode it. the second i made him uninstall k-lite, the file worked :)
