Kaspersky or NOD32

I use Kaspersky and vote for it...

Kaspersky has a better detection rate... but Nod32 will be better on a lower end system.

I need to know which one should I install on a PC (WinXP+SP2) with low memory ?
  • Kaspersky
  • NOD32
Go for Kaspersky
Never had a prob
Now using the Kaspersky 6.0
Acc to cnet.com
Kaspersky Ani Virus 6.0-> 8.0
NOD 32-> 7.3

I dont have anything against KAV users but seriosly even if KAV 6.0 has the highest detection rate than NOD 32 id did cause some problems with some games crashing after a certain time after that i switched to NOD 32 and all the

problems have vanished.

All the KAV 6 users do u face similar probs since i really hate when any of my

games or softwares crash.

NOD 32 2.70 has been working gr8 for me and its detection rate is also gud enuf for todays systems.

All good AV must be coupled with a good firewall + spyware detector.

while reading all the above posts... somehow I felt this situation is very similar to Azureus Vs utorrent... I use both Azureus and Kaspersky. I dont crib for the RAM, coz I think its meant to be used... although all 4 softwares are brilliant!!

Am using Kaspersky for a long time now. I had given NOD32 a try but it slowed down my machine big time. I dunno why this happened but it happened just to me. Dunno y but since then I am on KAV. Am running KAV on a P3 700 with 128 mb ram with win2k prof. Its running fine.

I'm using antivir now for 2 years and it runs pretty fine on my 128mb sdram win xp pc. Used to have kaspersky but got rid of it for some reason.

IMHO, NOD32 is better than Kaspersky in terms of heuristics and system resource usage. But, Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic is better than both, give that it is available for free and has better, if not the same, heuristic detection than NOD32. It's also probably the lightest antivirus available today. Two processes eating no more than 2-5MB is commendable.

i am using kaspersky 6.0 trial from its release on my p 3 500 mhz @ 128 mb ram no problem for me although it takes lots me resources i played at my services section & managed to keep it below 22. so my pc booms with kav 6
it takes 6 to 12 hrs for scaning my 80 gb 60 gb data 20 gb is allways free
& also i feel more secured with kav 6.0 no installation uninstallation problem.

not tried nad yet

A good detection rate means a good antivirus to me... coz I dont wanna miss even that single virus and lose any of my data...

Read here for my review comparison on detection rate: http://www.techenclave.com/forums/top-10-antivirus-software-82679-4.html#post515557

After that review, I tried GDATA AVK 2007 which combines Kaspersky and Avast engines (its got 2 scanning engines)... and I have to say its ultra-amazing. Best detection rate (100% i.e. 408/408) , not costly just ~$10 more than KAV, NOD32 (unlike Darth_Infernus was saying) and had an email conversation with their support and they didnt seem bad... (although they didnt tell me why they switched from BitDefender's engine to Avast)

So Darth_Infernus... how did u come to the previous conclusions about GData AVK... was it just reading someplace online or did u have a try at it earlier??

Nod32 is slightly lighter. But its virus def is much weaker than kav.
I use KIS it uses between 12 and 25mb in most cases (on 512mb machine). So, its very light also.
Considering both usage and virus defn, KAV is better (unless you have a p3 with 128mb ram).

Kindly suggest a good combination of Antivirus/AntiSpyware/AntiTrojan/Firewall that wouldn't bring the system down to its knees?

Antivirus - Nod32 or Avast?

AntiSpyware - Ad-aware / Spybot

AntiTrojan - ?

Firewall - Windows XP built in

I will be loading this on a new installation of windows xp.

AV : Kaspersky
AntiSpyware : Webroot (and spywaredoctor as second option). But, if you are smart you dont need to enable the real time scanning for antispyware softs.
Firewall : Realistically speaking anything that allows you to control internet access for running processes should do. You can try Jetico or Zone Alarm.

I am using Kaspersky AV6... Though the protection is great I faced some problems... First.. It was causing my connection to drop while updating... Second...Lately it takes quite some time to download updates..(maybe servers were loaded).. Third...Even though it provide better protection the scan time is horribly long... took more than 3 hrs for my system.....

NOD32 seems to be a good AV for low RAM systems but Kaspersky do provide better protection thats why I am sticking to it... 'coz RAM is no problem in my case..

ok, just checked out NOD 2.7, and there isnt a great deal of difference between system performance with NOD or KAV6. RAM usage is almost same.

IF this holds true for all other systems as well, then my vote goes for KAV 6
