The test was made on 02-16 April 2005, using Windows XP Professional SP1 on a P4 2600 Mhz, 512MB DDRAM.
All programs tested had the latest versions, upgrades and updates and they were tested using their full scanning capabilities e.g. heuristics, full scan etc.
The 91202 virus samples were chosen using VS2000 according to Kaspersky, F-Prot, RAV, Nod32, Dr.Web, Sweep, BitDefender and McAfee antivirus programs. Each virus sample was unique by virus name, meaning that AT LEAST 1 antivirus program detected it as a new virus.

The following file types were used
BAT, ΒΙΝ, CLA, CLASS, CLS, COM, CSC, DAT, DOC, ELF, EML, EXE, HLP, HQX, HTA, HTM, IMG, INF, INI, JS, MAC, MDB, MSG, OLE, PHP, PIF, PL, PPT, PRC, REG, SCR, SH, SHS, SMM, STI, TD0, TPU, VBA, VBS, WBT, XLS, XMI, XML.

I was really surprised with NOD32.But then found out that it isnt as bad it looks.THe problem with NOD32 is that it didnt detect a lot of old MSDOS virii, which are very rare now. Also AVG has declined drastically from last time
.

Well...i'd love to say Kaspersky is the best but the fact is tat its resource hungry...I can't keep it running all the time specially while playing games or running other heavy apps like Photoshop. Currently using NOD32 and its really really really light on system and I just love that. :p I am happy as long as it keeps out the newer viruses. :)

I use kaspersky as my primary AV :) Although it isnt perfect protection against targetted attacks as its not that hard to make stuff undetected to it just with a jmp in the code.

Firewall and common sense is more important imho then AV ;)

I have Norton System works 2005 which inludes an AV but i have it disabled, for the mean time i am using AVG free edition and to be honest i have never got a virus in the last 2 years,as mask said

,i never have them enabled,i enable them only when i run a virus scan.

dont try the zonealarm security suite it has a crap antivirus suffering frm its effect still now recently formatted my sys and had zone.. installed the system started hanging up after 5-10min did a scan it didnt find any virus or trojan uninstalled it and installed k.a.v it found some 3virus and some 4 backdoor.. still suffering even k.a.v cant repair it i keep getting this msg every 15-20min some backdoor ... have to format my system again i think so

Correction, MaxX said that :p

I use NAV 2k5 n some common sense.. hehhe.. i have been usind NAV since the NAV2000 days and its hard for me to get adjusted to anything else.. :D

I used to use KAV before (a few weeks ago :D ) but now i dont have any antivirus in my system and my old p3 system runs very fast without AV's !!!

NOD32 all the way...i get the fastest load times and catches all kinds of viruses.
tried ALL AV's available on the net....and NOD32 is the best as far as load and efficiancy is concerned...
panda titanium 2005 is also super, but very resource hungry !!

i use kav and satisfied with it.

may switch to avg free for keeping sys resources free.

last time i heard about this kind of review some EZ armour was at the top while it is totally absent this time why so? can any one opine.

yeah.Actually i havent also got any virii in a long time. But those trojans do sneek in.A lot of *********** have trojan horses. So i can't avoid them in any easy way.

Me using Norton since 5years never had a single virus on my PC.

I too feel a bit odd getting adjusted to anything else except Norton.

But the CPU Usage hurts me , doesnt matter for the safety it provides me.

if the norton's cpu usage is bothering u, just use the Symantec Antivirus Corp. edition.
Sleeping Giant--- u wont even notice its installed or not
Plus i love the Client server architecture that it has so that in a large network u dont need to live update all individual Machines wasting time & bandwidth
