Dear all...

My keyboard and mosue suddently don't respond at all. I would like to completely erase hard drive and reinstall OS. Question is, if keyboard and mouse both don't work, how do I do re-installation?

Thanks all in advance.

Can you please be more specific? Does your k/b work during POST or in BIOS setup?

Have you checked if there is any problem with the k/b and mouse (by connecting them to other PC?

Which motherboard and you using and are your k/b and mouse USB peripherals?

Thank you for trying to help me.

It's a laptop computer (shouldn't be a problem of connections). It happens all the time (regardless of when). It just doesn't move at all. Can't type anything either.

U talking about the trackpad or external mouse. If u been using the built in ones try external ones too. External Kb and Mouse.

I would suggest trying out a driver installation for the keypad or trackpad rather than reinstalling OS.

Remove the existing keyboard or trackpad using device manager and external mouse and then reboot. It should work...Or install the device drivers from ur lappy manufacturer.

first try a different mouse or a external one ,...do a scan of ur hard drive with nod32 or kaspesky then go to device manager and see if the plug and play devices are working fine else update driver

how can he remove or work on device manager when both mouse and k/b are not working?? :)

@simba09, as others said, see if you can connect external k/b and mouse (get those cheapo ones). If they are working fine, reinstall drivers as abhi suggested and if that doesn't work, take the laptop to RMA.

btw, are you able to use the k/b in BIOS atleast?

Even if you have any old ps2 keyboad /mouse, you can buy a converter (ps2 to usb converter which can convert mouse/KB ps2 to usb) and use it.
