THREAD EDITED!

Kill-A-Watt can only be plugged into a 110V socket thus making it impossible to use with Indian households which have a 230V electric supply.

The following devices are suitable:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12718

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=38343

Although DX has discounts when purchasing multiple units, it may attract customs. So it isn't wise to order from DX in bulk. The device in the DX link can measure a load of upto 2200W.

The product in the Maplin link can accept upto 3750W and can measure other parameters such as power factor, frequency, voltage, current etc but comes at an added expense at 13GBP!

Would be interested if it was a 220V one. Use of step-up transformer somewhat negates the point of plug-in energy meter.

Yeah in fact that would even have some power loss which would be accounted with the added power consumption of the device. :(

I think we should contact P3 and ask them if they have one designed for European households. Even the Seasonic Power Angel is designed for the US socket. :|

I have been looking around for a 200V one for a while, but all I could find was some really crappy chinese one.
Where did you find that? Online or some store?

...A step up transformer costs like Rs. 100/-

I use one for my PS3 (US Model),

one for some Bose Companions and others,

atleast 3 -4 are used around the house......

^But the point here is since transformers have power losses, we will not get an accurate measurement of any parameter. :(

It did not strike me until ms_mahu pointed it out. :P

^I cant see the image since I am at work but someone has asked that query in the thread and he hasn't responded either. :\

You don't need a step up transformer to use your PS3 - it accepts voltages from 110V to 230V. :bleh:

these do not have the rounded receptacles for the indian type of plugs..
Not a big concern since you can use a universal adapter. Now that wouldn't add up to the power losses between the electrical contacts. :P

What is the price in the Amazon link btw?

OK I have PM'ed Kauzy to buy the cheaper one from the above lot and use it to test the functionality of the product. If it works well, I think we can go for it. :)

Its pretty cheap as well. :P

Mahesh has confirmed for 2 anyway.

Oh second thoughts you are right, I am just using a adapter for the thin pins. I was using it for the Xbox, but it got burnt out, so bought a local XBOX AC adapter. But quite a few are used in the house, just forgot where all.

I am not sure if it will give accurate readings but there must be a way to calculate the offset if any...

PM Farookh and he should be able to help.

Update: Kauzy has agreed to get one and test it. The Maplin shop seems to be close to his university. :P

Let's see how it fairs.

Meanwhile does I2C world accept orders from the UK?
