Knife in Check-in Luggage?

I've recently bought a nice camping knife at Rotterdam, and would like to carry it, when i travel back to India.

My question is, can i carry it in my Check-in Luggage (NOT my hand luggage, mind you) ?

Is it allowed at the security? :huh:
 
umm, I have carried swiss knives in my checked in baggage

In fact, there was this time when I accidentally kept my house keys in my carry on baggage w/o realizing the keyring is actually a swiss knife

I passed via the Chennai airport security followed by another check at Charles De Gaulle..

It's only while unpacking I realized that the swiss knife was on me all the time...

You may get unlucky and the security folks may take the knife out after you have checked in the baggage, but the chances are rather low

So worst case scenario, you may lose the knife to some overzealous security personnel but if you don't bring it along, you lose it anyway :P
 
You might want to do a google just to make sure :P

Fact remains that pre 9/11 small swiss knives were allowed in carry on as well. AFTER 9/11 tho, any such sharp objects MUST be packed into check-in luggage and CANNOT be carried as carry on stuff (for obvious reasons).

So yes, in checked in luggage, you are fine :)
 
Ugh!!! (Some of) You people don't seem to be paying attention. He is asking about checked in luggage. Yes, you are allowed to carry knives in that.

I did that too and fro (Seattle) and no issue. However a guy at Mumbai airport, a rookie, wished to do some job (while talking to a girl) and asked me to open the bag, which I did. Post that no issue.

I've even sneaked in a couple of shurikens, swiss knives etc into the checked-in baggage while en route to India from HK. :lol:

But WTH, the peeps at Delhi International terminal asked me to open a sealed juice pack I had in my cabin-baggage and drink it in front of them. Did they presume it'd poison?? :|

I have brought even Hammer, plier and other similar mechanical tools in check-in laggage from Tokyo to Delhi (JAL flight), no prob :bleh:

Ever heard of liquid explosive man? Google it and you ll find out why they ask you to drink stuff to prove it is what you say it is :bleh:

well, generally the smaller airports have stricter checking due to the smaller traffic passing through( and hence the free time)

the larger ones dont pinpoint THAT much stuff

Thank you very much guys... so much info :) i'm relieved now to know that i can carry the camping knife...

In fact now i'm planning to buy a bigger knife, or a machete may be! :)
