OK so I installed Kubuntu on my netbook.

First thing I saw after the netbook booted up was a horrible screen with 4-5 icons on the screen. nothing else. I was expecting the typical desktop.

Trying to find it I deleted some stuff, now I dont know how to revert it back or fix it.

I just want a normal desktop when I boot up. Please help :|

Nevermind, figured it out.

New issue. cant install firefox. firstt time it said package missing. then i went to the software manager and downloaded it. then i get this error

Package: /var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_4.0~b11+build3+nobinonly-0ubuntu2_i386.deb

Error: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop', which is also in package kubuntu-firefox-installer 11.04ubuntu1

Once you do a fresh install before starting to install any new package it will he useful if you check once if all the software sources are selected, like partner source and refresh the repository package list.

- its been a while since i used KDE but I think under Kpackagekit you will find that.

- There should be a firefox installer link in the internet section of the menu, i believe its customized for kde than the one in software center, dont remember exactly...

try refreshing the repository with all the extra repository enable, hopefully it will instally via the menu link.

btw why do u want kde that too on netbook :P i hope its not an atom powered 10' screen :(

Yup, Firefox installer is currently broken for me too, repository packages are broken and should be fixed eventually. This is 11.04 ALPHA as I'm sure you know :D

The built-in rekonq is not too stable especially with flash. I've installed and running "chromium-browser" package in the mean time and it's good.

One thing I haven't tried is ignoring the firefox installer and trying to directly install firefox package(s) ?
