Superbad

Guide
My friend is having problems with his onboard lan somehow he cannot connect to internet with the settings though the same settings work fine for his dell laptop. The desktop a branded one acer its warranty of one year expired.:(
Any ways is it possible that onboard lan card goes kaput?
If yes then which lan cards should he go for .
I mean any brand preference and moreover how will it cost.
His config is acer desktop
Intel e2140
2*1 gb ram
Acer mobo which i saw was based on 945 chipset.
7300gso geforce video card.
160 Gig hard disk
19 inch monitor acer.
Thanks.

Does a read cross appears on the connection?

if not then are the lan cards activity lights showing up in the OS during sending receiving atleast on lan?

or

Also do the lights blink on the lan card port (orange/green)?

My old asus mobo lan got kaput suddenly as it only showed connection but no sending or receiving data.

Think I got a Zebronics LAN card a year ago, for around 190 bucks.

Such things should last you a while.

EDIT:

Dlink should be a good buy though.

he is using WIN 7 and an exclamation mark Yellow appears around the network icon.

he says during daytime sometimes it works but goes dead.

The notification mentions "you are connected to an unidentified network."

Yellow exclamation mark says windows couldn't get an IP address from your router (if DHCP is enabled) or there's an IP conflict. I am quite sure that the lan card is ok, just tell your friend to assign this LAN card a pre-defined address(even if dhcp is on), which is not assigned to any other device.
