LAN Freeze !!

I am using an INTEX LAN card on my PC which has Realtek chip. My computer is up 24x7. The LAN freezes every few hrs. It could happen within few hrs or maybe in 10-15 hrs. The PC shows connected to the internet but nothing transfers. No site can be opened & all torrents stop transferring data. All the lights on the MODEM are active but not flickering (DATA + PC).

When I try to ping or shutdown the computer, it hangs. I am sensing that the LAN card has gone bad. though not sure.

Try changing your lan card. I faced this kind of an issue a few years back and I tried everything. Changing cards, PCI slots etc. The only way I could resolve this was by getting a USB LAN card. Costs around 300.

I am thinking of D Link DFE-520TX 10/100M PCI Adapter... It should be better than el cheapo realtek which is flooded in the market... Should I change LAN cable & MODEM as well...

Check your windows settings. It could also be because Windows 7 detects no activity on your desktop and shuts down non-critical peripherals to save power. I had the same problem and I had to uncheck the option that shuts off an idle network and also another option that shuts off the lan card.

I am on XP... & I'd already disabled power saving feature for LAN card under system properties. Also data transfer never stops since I am torrenting...
