hi,

since the past few days i am facing something very unusual. when ever i disable the local area connection, it days its disabled but the local area conn icon doesnot disappear frm the taskbar. now when i goto control panel and goto network connection and refresh it there the icon goes off.

why am i facing such an issue?

further info, system is freshly formatted and i am using symantec client security version 1.5 the latest since 6 months but havent faced anythign as such.....

scanned the system with lavasoft adaware se, spybot, spyware doctor and webtoot but only thing detected was a few cookies...

any help appreciated..

seems more like a taskbar refresh problem, happens if a rogue program, has a dll, which overwrites current dll's for display or explorer.exe. Does not seem like a virus or a trojan issue.

dont worry i think its a normal problem cauz it happens even with me. like the network connections icon in the tray takes time to disappear though it has been disabled ,then i need to refresh or wait for sometime for it to disappear .

which means i need not worry about this behaviour, besides, when this strange lan card occurance happens, i am unable to ping a certain ip series, i noticed this coz we a few friends were about to do dc++ and i was unable to ping them and they were unable to ping me, but then when i changed my sybnet to 255.255.0.0 i could ping them and thy could ping me.

si this something to do with network....
