I hv a problem with my Sify account(well I've been having a lot of them)...Most of the days my connection stops working at 11 or 11:30 pm.....It resumes service at around 4 am in the morning......I called up customer care to know wat could be the problem and they send engineers to my house but they somehow blame it on my comp and try to get away with it....
I get the error message saying that Unable to reach Sify server.....I can ping my local gateway....
So what could be the problem..Is it a problem at my end...I have scanned the computer for viruses a hundred times but there were none.....
Any suggesstions about what to do....

Is it DSL or cable ? Do you connect thru a modem ? Mostly, if you can ping the default gateway (which is the DSL modem, assuming thats ur connection), then that means the communication problem lies between the modem and sify's servers, and thts not your computers fault.

There is no modem in the case of Sift networks. It is just an ethernet. Of course I hope is pinging the right gateway in case he is using a router or something. One thing, do your neighbours etc face the same problem?

Yes I am pinging the right gateway.....There is no router and modem involved....The gateway is the receiver box kept on the terrace of my building....

All my clever neighbours have changed their ISPs....There are still a few homes who use Sify...I will have to find them...

The engineer who comes to check my line says that none of the other customers are facing this problem.....He also mentioned that I am the only one using the night time package...So all others might be using it during the day......

And i too don't have any problems during the day, its only at night that i face the problem....

Usually what happens is that they loose power in the cable guys place. The receiver connects wirelessly to the server in the local cable guys palce. This in turn connect to the main sify server. If they have a power failure or their server gets restarted then your link would be broken.
I had similar problems when I was with them. There was even an occasion where the UPS that powers their wireless setup was not charging and therby disrupting the connection.
Move over to AirTel. The damn router can be set to always on and I have so far not had any loss of connectivity.

Dude change de IP to 10.40.100.xxx series and set DNS as 202.144.66.6 and 202.144.115.4 . Most of the times this prob occurs due to DNS cuz Sify Uses the NAT-PAt technology to release an IP for Internet which Internet Zool/POol. In simple terms Inbound ip is your local ip i.e., 10.40.100.xxx and sify gives outbound ip e.g., 202.144.66.xxx .

tryanna implement this and i believe this should work..

the system IP address (the one u r asking him to change to 10.40.100.xxx) is determined by the gateway server u connect thru, i.e., ur cable operator. U CANNOT change that IP at random.

From what i know, each Gateway server is in a seperate IP Range.

lemme provide you certain ip's and change the gateway respctively and i believe it should work.

10.12.152 10.40.174
10.12.165 10.12.190
10.12.168 10.10.231
10.40.100 10.12.153
10.12.88 10.40.110

I guess you can't change your ip cause it will be binded with your username , sify had introduced ip and mac address binding with your username IIRC
