though not a pro, but i need lappy for web designing.. precisely for that.. need some suggestion on screen size (what else i would have asked?)..

folks in similar profession or designers out there, plz pour in some advices & first hand experiences if any.. budget 70k..

size is indeed an issue for those who are first time buyers (of lappy).. i am also one.. so, that keeps puzzling me time n again.. so, i can put my question this way, what shall be the smallest but comfortable screen size for designing? fair enough.. thanks everyone!!!

Will you be using this laptop for portability. Anyway I would suggest 3 options.

Any base config would do. Even a single core would do. Just make sure the RAM is minimum 1GB.

1. Get a 15.4" laptop if you are not going to use it for portability. 15.4" is minimum for webdesigning in my opinion.

2. Get a smaller screen laptop for portability and attach it to an external LCD of say 19". Get the one superczar is selling here. Its for 58K and for remaining 12K you can get an LCD. This is a fairly powerful laptop for any webdesigning needs, even flash.

3. Get a 15.4" laptop and get a LCD. extend the desktop in dual screen mode and use it for a royal experience in webdesigning.

From my personal experience I highly recommend you the 2nd option. You can extend the desktop in 2nd too.

thanks renegade.. i have got 20.1" LCD already.. and i shall look for superczar's laptop as well..

yes, i shall need lappy for making sites on move.. was just worried, even on move.. (with portability) what smallest size shall be best and comfortable yet portable.. as i said i have 20.1" wide LCD.. so deskjob is secure.. but just wondering if i can take my work to a park, terrace, barista, gf's pg appartment..bla bla bla.. no masti, need it for serious working, thats y going for all these inquiries.. will 14.1" wide shall be too straining & uncomfortable for designing?..

Well if its not for long periods then it wont be too uncomfortable. At least you can do the coding part easily. Its just the layout part that would look better when done on a 15.4".

Tell you what. Take a half finished webpage on pen drive and visit your computer market. Launch the webpage in a browser and a notepad. Work for a few minutes. Try this out on 13.3, 14.1 and 15.4. And in that order coz if you try it out on 15.4 first then you may not like the others. If you can work fine in 13.3 too then make your choice.

fair enough.. but trying in market shall not give me proper idea of what shall happen in real time working.. perhaps folks who have been using laptops for this purpose n have faced problems(if any) with screen sizes can suggest me.. you say, 15.4" wide shall be good whatever case may be.. hmmmm i had my heart on 14.1" wide actually.. but, i guess, i can compromise a bit of portability over screen size, which may give me an edge over design aspect of web design... just that, 70k is little big amount for me, so can't make a mistake by buying something small or big.. 14.1 inchers have best of both worlds.. but i guess, it can cause design precision and accuracy to get jeopardized... well, i guess, i gotta carry some extra weight then.. am i making a right choice... ??

LOL..not to push my sale or anything but a 15.4' is a big no-no for portability....14.1" is fair enough..i personally prefer 12" but maybe small for web designing

choose between 13.3 and 14.1 if you need some bit of portability

I would never ever suggest a 15.4 to anyone who wants a laptop since I know its a pain in the ass (and shoulders). Thats why I am saying try it out yourself.

As for the finer aspects of design issues someone who has tried it on 14.1 can throw better light on it.

I say you go for 14.1 then. You can anyway validate your work when you come back home to your LCD.

(I think I am confusing more than helping so ill leave :S )

hmm than 14'1 should suffice my need.. i saw ur lappy for sale there.. had it would have been 14'1", i would have been the first to ask for it.. its in my budget as well, but i may need little better specs, besides the fact that its a sony viao..

now, could you plz suggest some model/brand for 14'1" the best i can get in 70k ..

renegade u are not confusing man.. stay right there.. its always helpful to confuse sometimes though :)). but here its me who is confused, not u.. i got ur point when u said to go to a show room n see for my self.. thats helpfull, i shall do that for sure.. alas!! dell has no show room for this..

Well i am a Webdesigner by profession and am also dealing in HP lappy's.
Presently i own Hp lappy which is has 256MB ram.And it works fine. As faar as screen is concerned. I will suggest you to go for 15" atleast helps a lot..Even i had a 14" lappy b4 but sold it just because screen was quite small. And got a 15" .
Carrying it didnt made any difference. On other hand I find this one lighter. I have a good deal for you within 55K or may be below than that, with 512MBram, Core duo, Antiglare and all. If intereseted and in reach within delhi circle then Contact me.
