Laptops Laptop as primary PC. Do's and Dont's?

Hi all..

I am getting a new laptop soon to replace my PC. So what all should i look for while doing that?.

For example the power and heating.

I have heard not to keep it connected to main power all the time. the batter will go bust. so should i remove the battery after first charge and just keep it on mains?. and just use the batter when no power?

And about heat. which one is a best VFM laptop cooler? for a i3 based 15.6" one.

anything more please mention it.

Any help appreciated.

From what I know, you should not keep a laptop always on mains. For best battery life, use the laptop on battery while it has charge. When the battery is depleted, put it on mains till the battery is charged. Then use it on battery again ... as in, keep using battery and AC mains in a cycle.

Plz don't kill me if I'm wrong :ashamed:
 
First and Foremost important Laptop using advise

- Handle with Care :P

Second, purchase cooler master notepal infinite (any color you like). I own one, and I am proud on.

Regarding battery and power, HP A.S.S. guy once told me, "It's advisable to completely use your battery once in 15 days."

Means run your laptop in full High Performance mode until it signal of "Low battery". charge it back.

Third, get a good surge protector.

First point and second point.. will do and got one(will be on APC UPS)

The second point..yeas..looking for a good cooler. will check that model now itself.
 
Well i use my laptop as my primary pc. I always have it running on mains.

Just drain your battery once in a month. That should be fine.

Also as long as you keep it on a table and the exhaust vents are not blocked, heating is not an issue.

I have had mine running for a week continuously and it still was not very hot.

Since it will be your primary pc i suggest going for a dell and getting their 3 years Complete cover warranty.

That will give you peace of mind and flexibility to use the laptop any way u want.
 
I've been using my Laptop (Dell Studio 15) as my home PC for more than 1yr.

The auto cutoff is all bullshit. My first battery became dead like that. Luckily I got a free replacement from Dell.

The first thing is remove the battery. When you want to carry it around simply put it in. No need to switch off the laptop when doing this.

If you have a UPS then plug it into it when battery is removed.

If the laptop generates much heat put a book below the laptop to make it slanting to the forward. That way the heat will pass quickly & you'll be able to use it without much inconvenience. OR if you have cash buy a laptop cooler. I was able to do without one.

i was thinking on the same lines.. removing the battery and using it. just put the battery like once 2 or 3 weeks and use it full charge
 
My laptop is mostly on ac power and i am using vaio battery care software which limits the amount of charge to 50% or 80% or any custom value % of the total battery life,according to sony this decreases battery degradation:P
Anyways, most of the laptop batteries are dead after 3yrs or even less, that is why i dont care for this battery saving stuff.
