Okay folks, I'm again here to disturb you guys a bit :bleh: Need a laptop, not in a hurry can wait 6 months if needed, budget around 50k (+/- 10k if it gets the right thing), Usage will be multipurpose usage including often gaming.

1. Should be portable with good battery life. (dont need huge battery life but a reasonable one portability is needed and I cannot decide between a 14.1/13.3 or a 15.4 sometime it feels 15.4 is good for watching movies lets go for it while sometime it feels 14.1 is the best choice while sometime it feels 13.3 is the right choice over 14.1? any suggestions and ideas here? :ashamed:

2. Screen/LCD should be brilliant and vibrant, S-IPS if possible. :ohyeah: And Can someone explain me whats better between glossy and matty?

3. Dont need huge storage space, 80 GB suffice.

4. Around 1 GB of Ram.

5. Intel C2D preferred, wont hesitate looking into other proccy if performance drop is not significant. I'm out of recent proccy developements so let me know if there is someting which strikes good with money and performance.

6. DVD RW/wifi et al are common. Is the wifi b/g/n standards getting standard in laptops these days? or its still b/g ?

7. Should have a decent look (Like I dont like ACER looks), and should be reliable with good service life and should be tuff/good build quality.

Check out Sony Viao CR. It has a core2duo processor and meets most of your other requirements. You can check with your local dealer as they may offer you a cheaper price than whats listed online.

For the rest of your query try looking at this thread.

aint the vostro series only for 15.4 inchers? whats special in it? I'm trying to avoid the 15.4 inchers, on other hand I want a absolutely lively and brilliant display.

Buy the Vostro/Inspiron only if you plan to spend less than 40K

Both the Inspiron /Vostro are plagued by LCD backlight bleeding problems and you don't want that if you are spending 40K + on a laptop

hey bro since your planning for six months in advance it doesnt make sense arguing about models right now cause, damn right there will be newer models, maybe not in dell (as they try to keep costs min by maintainin the same models but upgrading the parts regularly, and hence the price benefit they pass on to u. ) But yes do remm that dell does offer the best value for money solutions around, and whenver you plan to buy , they should be one of ur first options. Also since u hav a good amount of time in hand, it always is beneficial if u know some1 in us, he can get it down 2 india for u, Trust me you would save a lot more than a bundle.

Cheers Mate!! :ohyeah:

superczar I know you once said Fujitsu has excellent display, I'm willing to spend above 40k+ if the rise in performance and the screen performance is worth it, but willing to keep things under 55k max or so.

Which laptos in the configuration I said still under budget but will offer me the best display? XPS? How about macbook running windows? What about the Asus upcoming model the F8S-A1 ? And what is the difference between vostro and Inspiron?

amityrock dont you think buying laptop from US wont come with the warranty that can be availled in India?

Edit : The vostro 1400 specs looks good the one around 47k or so but superczar says it is plagued with screen issues :( so now? even if I customize using the Ultrasharp Truelife WXGA+ display with Truelife the issue will be there?

The warranty of vostro series seems to be only 1 year any issue with that? After customizing with 160 GB, the best display on list, DVD RW, 9 cell, 90 Watt charger, the sound card, camera and the graphics card its coming around 61k. For some reason I canot de-select the service install, Mcaffe suite et al, and I dont want vista as well! Seems a lot If the display is crappy.

Also how is it possible to avail Dell coupon in India?

Well if you buy a dell in the us, its warranty would be valid in India if you opt for 3 years waranty extension. If you buy the 1 year normal waranty it wont be valid in india. Well i dont know much about Dell india, no u cant use us dell coupons in india but if u call them up they normally give u some discount or the other.

Well if bleeding is inherent in your laptop, it will be there no matter whch screen u choose.
And 1 year warranty is normal for all laptops. And if you select the best of everything it would obviously cost a lot. Personally i dont think selecting the best display, sound card, and 90 watt charger makes sense. And plus if the price jump is massive from 80 to 160 gb hdd in India, u can opt for the 80 gb and buy a 2.5" external hdd. And as for the mcaffe and vista, if u call dell customer care im sure theyl be willing to replace vista wit xp (after all xp is cheaper for them). But i would strongly advice u to buy windows vista, cause in 1-2 years from now, trust me xp would become outdated.!
Hope i answered all ur queries.!
Cheers Mate!! :hap2:
