core duo t2450 2Ghz
15.4" truelife
1gb (512 x 2 ) @ 667 Mhz Dual channel
Intel MA 950
120gb sata
8x dvd writer
dell wireless bluetooth module
90W adapter
9cell battery

plz help me choose..
is this way better than the vostro and worth the extra 4k?

go for the basic DELL VOSTRO 1500 N-series notebook..

it comes to a base price of 47.5k and has everything u need..

T5470 (santa rosa)

1 Gig ram

120 gig drive

15.4" 1440X900 with true life

and a bundled large nylon case :P

it comes with a 8400 GS gfx card which is definitely better than on board graphics that u can get on the 6400 and the vostro 1000..

i know its over ur budget, but u will get a better goin in for this config..its a much faster system than the other two u mentioned and only 2.5k over ur budget..

if u can extend ur budget a bit more, then get urself a 8600GT card..this shud let u play all the upcoming games at good resolutions..

True life screen are much better ... DELL is the best deal i think. Get DELL or IBM as their customer service (IBM Kolkata is good) is good. Dont foget to get the warranty extended 3 yrs .. u can extend later also but if you do while buying it will come cheap.

yea.. the vostro 1500 customised wud be a superb one to own..
but its around 5k more than my budget.. i cannot do without the 9 cell
so its coming upto 49.6k
ill try and arrange for finances for the extra 5k :captain:

for now.. if i had to choose between the inspiron 6400 and the vostro 1000 configs ive posted.. which one shud i go for ? is it worth the extra 4k ?

if i can arrange for that extra 5k.. ill surely go for the 1500 vostro :hap2:

hey man if u really want core2duo go for the acer

One more vote for Acer Aspire 5583NWXMi. It is a superb value-for-money machine. You can buy it with an extended 3yr warranty for 45k (all inclusive).

I know a lot of TE members swear by Dell, but Dell is horrendously overpriced in India.

You can read about how Dell over-charges its Indian customers here.

Hey dude, that article is old news. I customized the latest Dell Inspiron 1520 with 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Nvidia 8600M GT for about Rs. 58,000 at the Dell US site. The total cost was only Rs. 62000 when i choose the same configuration at the Dell India site.

So, they have reduced the rates in India and are aggressively promoting their products in India now.

Thanks for all ur suggestions
sorry shud have mentioned this earlier :ashamed:
i need a minimum of 15-15.4" screen
so tat wud rule out the acer
i dont know anyone whos coming down from US anytime soon
the thing is.. ill be heading out to the hostel this weekend.. so cant cope with a boring machine... most probably will go for the vostro 1500 as it comes with 8600gt M.. am into casual gaming
am exploring other options as well.. but none of em offer customisation like dell :(
am also in touch with raghunandan.. whos helping me get the dell 22".. abt the laptop.. gonna let you ppl know wat happens of that

for 40k.. its really good
you get it completely customised.. and its black :)
only downside being the support is one year

me 99% going in for vostro 1500.. its coming upto 50k with webcam :D
also guys.. is it advisable to give your dell lappies to local dealer to get it serviced?
their 3 year support support puts me back by 7.7k!!!! :@

You did it right .. 7.7k is worth for 3 yrs .. this notebook anything goes wrong they cost hell for repair. At least 3yrs u can be in peace of mind. I think after that you wont be using the same lappy anyway :) maybe some eight core CPU inside :)

good luck for your new Lappy.

i really cant put in that kinda money now
my budget was 40k originally.. now ive stretched it to 50k.. another 7k is outta question

any idea how much an extension of a year or two might cost?

well ppl
my institue wanted me to have the laptop the first day of coll ( which was the reason i started the thread )
so dell was out of the question.. on top of that,, they were closed for the extended weekend :@
so went in for compaq v6409TU.. got it for 42.2k.. will add one more 512 667Mhz stick.. might cost around 1k more.. so its around 43.5
its the cheapest and the best laptop i could find within and near my budget of 40k
thanks to all of u who shared thier views..
thanks again
