Budget: <60 K but I'd sure be happy if I can get something for 45

Primary usage:
  • Casual gaming (20+ hours a week but doesn't need to run the latest and the greatest games at max resolution). Currently playing: Civ5, Dragon Age 2. Bought Skyrim but it doesn't run on my ancient laptop
  • Movies
  • Engineering software development and execution (some of these are memory hogs)
Size and weight considerations: 15" preferred. Could get 17" in a pinch

Brand preference: Have a five year old Dell Vostro 1500 that's served me really well so I do trust Dell. Will absolutely *not* buy Sony. Any other brand is fine.

Other considerations:
  • Not too fussed about battery life (got an inverter) and portability (will shuttle between my living room and study and not much more than that)
  • I absolutely detest OEM bloatware and must have an OS CD if I pay the Microsoft tax so that I can do a clean install. Don't care for those silly restore CDs.

Saw the following recommendation from sam811 in a different thread:
HP Pavilion G6-2005AX Laptop AMD A8 Quad Core/4GB/500GB/Win 7 HB/1GB Graphics: Flipkart.com: Compare, Review HP Notebook
I like that one but I don't think it meets the last whiny criterion (OS CD) in my list :)

Thanks

download Windows Home Basic image (trial) from microsoft site and use the key at the bottom to register it :)

G6 2005AX is suited for those looking for gaming at budget range. at 45-50k, you can have much better laptops. Like Dell Inspiron 15 Special Edition for 42-43k or Samsung NP550P5C-S01IN for 52k are much better. The latter is purely focused on gaming.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm considering getting the Inspiron 15 SE. Will post with price once (if) I make the purchase.
