Primary Usage Playing Civilization 4
Screen Size Preference 14 Inches

Special Requirement Should run cool. No overheating!

My current laptop (2 Year old Lenovo G450) starts getting hot as if all hell has broken loose when I fire up Civilization 4. The fan works at top speed venting very hot air! I am able to run the game for 2 hours and then the laptop powers off automatically.

I want my next laptop to be able to run the game coolly.

Kindly advise.

Civ4 is a lowend game and almost any laptop will be able to run is easily.

if you want a 14", consider these: Dell Vostro 3450, Dell Inspiron 14R & Lenovo G470 (59-337051).

if you are ok with 15", check these: Samsung NP300E5Z-A0MIN & HP Pavilion G6-2005AX

Is Civ4 really lowend? Then do you think I could perhaps upgrade my current laptop's ram to solve the problem?

My current configuration -
Pentium Dual-Core T4300 (2.10GHz)
1 GB DDR3 RAM
Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family

Intel GMA X4500 is quite capable of handling this game and even 1GB of ram is sufficient. It looks like a dust problem for sure. Why don't you give the laptop for service or try cleaning the fan and the vents yourself. Civ4 is a old game but it does require some processing power. maybe thats why the fan starts spinning at high speed.
