i need a laptop for general purpose only [no gaming, ripping, encoding etc..]

i need it for my younger sister who is in class 9th

budget 25-30k max

msi cr400x @ 25k. or u could go for msi's netbook u210 @ 16k with a 12inch screen and mv-40 amd single core cpu.

1) Look for Acer's 57xx series laptops. perfect for budget conscious

2) Dell Inspiron 14 is also available at around 30k.

If you can pay 32k-33, Dell Inspiron 15 with Pentium Dual core will be perfect.

Why pentium dual core for 32-33k :S

You can get a Dell inspiron14 with core i-3 330M and 2GB DDRIII RAM and 250GB HDD for Rs.31,400 (+Rs.900 delivery charges) -> Rs.32,300(Inclusive of taxes and delivery)

Inspiron 14 Laptop Details | Dell India

PS.: Just curious. If your sister is not staying in a residential school and at home why not configure a more powerful desky for just ~ 20-22k which would be more VFM.

^^ah. damn. I didn't check the latest price. I was referring a model at Croma :(

and the ones with Pentium dual core starts at 27.4k (maybe 29k after taxes and shipping charges).

core i3 would be the best one to go for. powerful, cooler, less power consumption etc etc.

there's a compaq laptop for 21k on ebay which has a 2ghz core 2 duo cpu and is powerful enough for daily usage and more.

i too was in a mood to build a desktop for her but now when i have to buy she is stuck with lappy ... may be her friends r using 1 :@

my ideas of upgrading all gone :(

a desktop for a girl doesn't make any any any sense. it's cheaper but if I am right, they just hate working on a desktop.

Are you talking about last week's deal of the week? It isn't available any more

Her friends won't be using notebooks and i am sure they won't be wishing for their friend to use one:P

Try to undertand brother ..computers are almost in every family but a laptop is dignity:P of a person

dignity???? come on. Haven't laptops become more of a mainstream devices than dignity or luxury item?

Look around. Most of the big companies are now giving laptops for their employees instead of desktop and the simple reason is mobility.

anyways....this question is quite unappropriate but why would a class 9th student need a laptop?
