1) What is your budget? -35K, can stretch it by 2000 more, not more than that.

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?- 15.6" seems good.

3) What are the primary tasks you will be performing with this notebook? -Very basic, nothing more than general browsing internet, working on microsoft word, excel, powerpoint, sometimes watching movies, listening to songs, this is just for general use, nothing more.

5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?-No,I am a newbie in tech world, my last laptop was an acer bought by my sister and it was okay,it worked for 2 years and then died, now I just want another one, looking for buy in next week.

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
-Acer was okay, but I won't like it again, I want something better looking and performing than that, it died in 2 years. And my uncle had compaq which was bad. I haven't used any other brand but heard good things about dell, lenovo, hp, asus from reading on forums.

6) Anything else you would like to say?
-I will use it for basic tasks, so don't want to unnecessarily spend a lot in buying something I won't even use. I have seen few models on flipkart, any of these particularly good? Would prefer to hear from someone who uses them- I am interested in long lasting laptop, with good after sales service, and sturdy since I am a rough and tough kind of person,so delicate things are out.

For day to day use, why not buy something cheapest... For me ASUS brand has been most reliable. having 5 year old ASUS netbook, 4 year old 15.5 inch laptop and cell phone. 15.5 Inch laptop was cheapest model around 18K. Now its running Win 8 without any issue, though little bit slow considering CPU is 4 year old entry level.. But it has withstand a lot of abuse from kids at home.

Currently Lenovo produces the most durable laptops. But the quality of the screen provided in most entry level Lenovo laptops is pathetic. The colours look washed out.

I think if someone need to buy the laptop for general use then 30K is too much amount there are laptops of 20k-25K which can prove best for general use. There are HP, Asus laptops which are cheaper and also good for general use.

I went through this recently and bought a 14 inch version of this.

This is the review, remember it doesn't have hdmi port... (I didn't need one)

If hdmi is must..
Go for this, but battery and viewing angles are not great and older generation CPU but faster than 4th generation.

Don't get confused, reviews are for i5 versions,

Check local stores, they're much cheaper than online in this regard.

Seeing your needs are very basic you should get a Pentium Haswell model.

Truth be told no brand is perfect. Because not all of their products are perfect.

Saying that is like leaving a *Conditions apply. Experience vary from person to person. For eg. I have the worst experience with HP and best with Acer. (we've had 4-5 Acer laptops). Acer also gave me a good after-sales service here in New Delhi. DELL was not bad. Asus (if its still handled by Rashi peripherals) has a bad name here.
Just get an extended warranty on your laptop. I think that Lenovo has 1+2 years free (?). I also heard that Lenovo has a good after-sales service. Dell has full accidental damage warranty coverage, at a cost.
