Guys, please help me decide if to keep an old laptop or buy a newer one.

I already have an old Compaq Presario 2100 series laptop that is really old. It works okay, just the battery is shot and does not give backup. It has a small HDD, 256 MB RAM, can run XP, no inbuilt Wifi or Bluetooth either, not that I need the latter though. I was initially thinking of just getting the battery replaced, but now I am wondering if it is worth replacing it.

Now I have not needed a laptop during travels so far. But now I think I can do with one. The usage is mainly in hotels where I want to download, upload, email documents and pdfs. Nothing more. If it can double up for a movie now and then good. Looking at my requirements I was thinking of a smaller screen, like 11.6", primarily for the weight. Will it suffice for document viewing and typing now and then?

1) Should I just use a new battery, use a WiFi USB adaptor, and use the current laptop?

2) Should I get one 11.6" model, which will be lighter to carry in luggage?

Thanks in advance.

Get a new one. Since this one is pretty old, it would be very heavy as well.

Get the Asus X200.

If you can stretch your budget, get the Asus Transformer T100.

Thanks. Any specific submodel for the Asus X100. I will look up the T 100 as well.
X200 has different versions. Mostly the processor and body colour changes with change in model number.

If you are travelling, T100 would be great as you can detach it and use it as a tablet. Only problem is that the lower priced version only has limited amount of flash memory. Only the higher priced version has the 500GB HDD in the keyboard portion.
