Hi Friends

I want to buy a new laptop which can support below

1. hold atleast 32 GB ram (For running VM). Do we have laptops with 4 RAM slots?

2. 4 cores. I perfer to buy AMD models as they seems to be value for money compared to intel and durable as well. It seems the new Ryzen APU models are good. CPU speed is not a criteria. Can go with little less CPU speed as well.

3. Should have the feature to add an extra HDD internally.

Pls suggest a good value for money laptop, preferably AMD model

Thanks

hello how is lenovo ideapad 330 ryzen 5? for vm

If the CPU scores are good - if they are near that of a 2nd/3rd gen i7 QM, then it's very good for more testing. Throw in 8GB or more RAM + SSDs for booting + VMs and you can easily do most tests at home.

Go for an i5 8250u laptop. Dont go for ryzen 5. Its similar price and lesser performance..
Most i5 laptops come with a m.2 slot along with a harddisk. You can simply open it and add an ssd. If you get one with a CD drive, then you can add another via a caddy.

Check out Lenovo P52 model which comes with 128GB memory option. If it's too costly then check older model P50/P51 which has 64GB memory option.

How are AMDs for virtualization these days? I have always heard intel chips having better support for virtualization, like supporting hardware passthrough.

i was using amd phenom 2 x2 555 it worked nice
too used amd phenom 2 x6 it worked nice
at present using amd fx4300 it is working ok not nice :)
all 3 are desktop

I had last done virtualisation on AMD on a 7750 BE. Worked like a charm. After that, it has been Intel all the way....
