Any idea if 2.5" laptop hdds from seagate/hitachi/toshiba et al are available in india - my compaq presario's hdd is on its last legs and hp india is quoting 15k for a replacement drive, when a 80gb 7200rpm 2.5 drive costs about 4k in singapore!!!

they're pretty easily available.. check with ur local dealer. quite a few of us here are using lappie hdds in external casing

YUP - you will get 2.5: HDDs all over Lamington Road. I know that some Toshiba 2.5" HDDs are thicker than normal and may not fit so take care if you buy a Toshoba. Hitachi and Seagate are both available - and - if I am not mistaken I think a 40GB 2.5" HDD is around the 3.5K - 4K range.
 
My local dealer can't care less. So can either of you gimme some contact details of places/shops that sell 2.5-inch drives?
