how is dell after sales service ?

dell has great after sales service and should be the first preference.

in pune, a friend got a dell Inspiron 15with Intel T6400, 3gb ram,320 gb hdd and a 6 cell battery for 38 k all inclusive from laptronix, kalyani nagar.

there will be compaq models also. staples nr esquare had pretty good offers in compaq range of laptops about a month back.

wat pom 99 said :The concept of "customer care in India is a myth."

i fully endorse his views,

no brand is the best with regards to a$$.

still dell is the best among all AFAIK.

its like " andho mein kaana raja"

i dont know the english translation of this

Since you mention casual gaming as well, I just thought I'd mention the Croma laptop as well which comes with a t6400 & 9600m gs. Though it's for 43k, I think it'll probably be the best within [correction: around] your budget for a gaming laptop in India. Now, I know your budget is 40k MAX, but maybe you could bargain?

Also, I understand you are concerned about the after sales service. [After all you ARE plonking down 40k which is by no means a small sum, so no chances]. The advantage of a Croma over lets say a Zenith would be that you can directly take the laptop to your nearby Croma store rather than wait for someone to attend to you [I'd imagine].

They are also prepared to give you an extended warranty [2 years, if I'm not mistaken].

All this, provided you have a Croma store near you, of course. Just some food for thought.

[Talking about food.... I'm off to dinner... Yum...Yum]

As already discussed on this forum Croma and Zenith laptops are same. No difference. BTW zenith director plus ultra laptop with 4 gb ram and 320 gb hdd, t6400 and vista starter edition is available on zenith site for 39990/-
Zenith-Product Details . A local dealer may still better the prices. You also have the option to go for p8400 processor.
And keep one thing in mind that the newer inspiron 15 laptops are not the same as it used to be earlier. The quality has come down by a large extent and the laptops doesnot even have a HDMI port.

how is the new inspiron 15 inferior to older inspriron 1525.

i myself have older inspriron 1525, bought last year,

and except for the hdmi which my laptop has,

the newer one has better specs and the prices have also come done in a year.

wat kind of quality are u talking about : bigbyte

I've checked both the inspirons kept side by side at croma ( 1525 was just for display, they werenot accepting booking for that) and i felt that newer inspiron are inferior to inspiron 1525. Prices of IT hardware always come down so there is no big deal in that but in case of Dell it was coupled with downgraded hardware as well. The integrated GPU is capable for HDMI output but they have removed this coz they must be using a cheaper motherboard. And I found display of 1525 better than inspiron 15 though inspiron 15 is 15.6" (vs 15.4").

On the other note, A mojority of laptops these days are coming equipped with T6400 processor which is presently not listed on Intel's site in their Penryn lineup. It appears only when you specifically search for it. So is it an outdated model or a model meant for OEM's only.

may be they r using a cheaper motherboard,

i have not seen the newer model,

but looks good on their website.

anyways i have the older model only :P

Badhiya hai...plder was way better.. the newer one's have 1.3mp camera instead of 2mp... how much money do you think dell has saved not more than rs.100 I think....:bleh:
BTW can you run cpuz on your dell and tell who is the motherboard vendor...I guess it would be quanta....

Same as in config? Or one of the two is a re-brand of another? Is there any 'insider' info on this? Don't get me wrong. I'm not questioning the authenticity of your statement, but just curious.

@OP, there's an option to configure the Inspiron with a p8600 which will bring the price to 40k [without any other customization].If you plan on using XP, then the default 2gb ram would suffice. Besides, you can always upgrade the ram later. Just thought I'd mention it as the previous posts discuss how the t6400 is being phased out?!!!

Also I assume that the better processor will give you better frame rates, given that the laptop has integrated graphics & therefore the graphics processing will be done by the cpu itself. Someone will have to verify this though. I'm not speaking from experience, but rather logic [as explained above].

Thanks.

It's a re-brand. I have seen the croma lappy personally. It looks exactly same except director logo is replaced bye croma. Further in vista info screen you can see the zenith logo. And one member on this forum even ran cpuz on croma laptop and it was identified as zenith corporate pc. Search for it.
