Laptops laptop issue

Hello, to all I have one of my laptops that spontaneously goes entirely black on screen. I have to shut down and for some reason remove battery then replace it and reboot it will work. I don't think the battery is the issue due to the following. I noticed that this can also happen if the screen saver kicks in or if I put it in hibernate when I leave office. Its a compact with WIN XP. I try to update it with the multitude of fixes from microshaft. I've employed one of my other laptops but this one has the faster processor and most ram. I know the answer can be found here. Thanks Handy

doesn't seem like a h/w problem...just seems like the comp isn't recovering from standby/hibernate or some problem with the display driver (since the display driver controls the display on/off state on laptops)

difficult to troubleshoot this way....try a driver resintall, or preferably a clean XP installation

where does one go for driver info to install this all came preloaded and I got no cd with laptop. As it was used I got only laptop. Dcttrt
